I will say the "scene" here is full of very strange people. Some of which I find offputting. Despite my best friend being a dancer anytime I go to a bar where there are dancers and stuff they don't really want anything to do with me. It is like I don't exist. They are very cliquey like that. Also, they always point out to me that I SHOULD be dancing because I wear suits. This one girl told me I have to dance because I wear "old timey, high waisted trousers". I mean WTF? I think it is strange that somebody would try to get me to take dance lessons based on my appearance and be so pushy about it. I mean wouldn't they rather somebody dance because they are interested in dancing? No, as long as one fits the image of their affected world, that is all that matters.

I actually won a swing dance contest. I once dated a girl from Barnard who was really into it. We took classes and the week before the end of year competition, we actually practiced. We won and got the Barnard College 199? Swing Dance Championship trophy, which she has somewhere. The contest, of course, was just for the people in the class, so it doesn't amount to anything. But still --- I won a Swing Dance Trophy!!!

Well, I have met you so I will just tell them that I know somebody IRL who used to hang with Frankie Manning back in the day.

    at what?

Last night, a recent Barnard grad. came over to talk with my wife and generally hang out (she had just lost her dad and needed to talk about stuff). She was very nice. I have no complaints about them.

Are they ex-NYU/Columbia/Rutgers teams? If it's NYU then I understand...

Most people on the NYU ballroom team are "shockingly" not from NYU, but that would be a separate story. Ballroom scene can be weird that I would admit...

Funny you should mention. They all say that the ballroom dancers are "weird people". I think the lot of them are pretty weird so I guess it is all relative.

Holy shit, I was just thinking that. My knees sweat through my trousers on my walk home from work.
