    I may head back this weekend with the leftette. Is it Sat only or Sun as well? How early do you have to be there to grab a street spot?

    many of the places are closed Sun, esp. in summer.

    I've never had a problem getting a spot, if you can't get one on the Ave, I've never had to go more than a block off on a side street. I typically get there around 10 when all of the places will be open but I've been later than that and still not had a problem.

    ^total bummer.

    on any given night in williamsburg there's always some rooftop party going (usually its a 4-8 floor building). if its an old building you'll see people sitting on the 2-3 foot ledge and just wonder when someone's going to fall off.

    somebody fell off a roof at a party in SF and died eariler this year

    I'm sure the city will somehow figure into the lawsuit. I believe the guy in SanFo was drunk and partying on a roof during the B>B race.

    Yes, the SF guy was drunk, as I recall.

    I don't see how you could blame the city for this. Unless there is a regulatory agency that is responsible for inspecting balcony railings? I take it she didn't simply slip, but the railing broke?

    Any surviving relative might try to sue the owner of the building.

    then there was the one in chicago in 2003 where those large apartment decks gave out during a large party. so sad 13 died.

    yeah, she was sitting on it, it broke, and she fell back. Very sad.

    something similar happened two or so years ago, a young guy died as a result.

    I'm not afraid of heights, but for some reason I don't want to live more than 5 or 6 flights up.

    How about just not sitting on the railing? Seems like a pretty simple end to avoid.

    I was in Chicago during this period. A lot of apartments, particularly the old ones, in Chicago have a back wooden staircase that doubled as a fire exit and "deck." During parties these would be loaded up with folks and collapse. CPD now regularly stops when they see folks out on the staircases.
