I feel like I'm always defending Wayfarers on this forum. I don't understand the hate. Sure, they're popular. They were popular in the 70s. And then in the 80s. And now they're popular again, and will probably die out when the whole hipster/big sunglasses thing dies.

But you know what? Hipsters wear chucks too. They wear raw denim. It doesn't ******* matter. They're sunglasses. If they look good on your face, buy them. If they don't, either go with the smaller ones, or buy different sunglasses. We don't need every thread on sunglasses to turn into a Wayfarer hate/appreciation thread.

EDIT: I feel the need to point out that I really like my Wayfarers. They were cheap, they're sturdy and small enough that I can throw them in the pocket of my jeans without worrying about them. And they're not Oakleys, so I still think I'm not as big of a douche as I could be.

With that said, I can't wait to pick up the Pradas I've had my eye on. So to each their own.

The problem with them strombollii is that wayfarers (black or tortoise?) are like chucks (what color should I order?). Not worth discussing or creating a thread over something so old and ubiquitous.

You like them? Fine. You like chucks? Fine. Is there anywhere a discussion of these can lead? Not really, yafeelme? Let's face it we don't sit around and talk about chucks (well noobs do but that's because they don't know any better). Should have been posted in should i or shouldn't i thread.

IMO, try and find a pair that was made by Bausch and Lomb before Luxottica started making them. Granted the new ones have polarized lenses, but the heavy duty build seems missing.

I've got Ray Bans over 20 years old and they are still awesome. Got some rounds, some Clubmaster, Wayfarer Max, classic Wayfarer, and Aviators. I generally keep a black and tortoise in each style for outift matching.

And as far as the comment about "vintage" models not having Ray Ban logo on the lenses - I've never encountered it with the genuine article. There's always at least a "BL" on the lenses. I would assume no logo would mean that the pair was a knockoff, but I could be wrong.

Grabbed a bunch of pairs about 6 years ago on eBay when guys were selling out old Baush and Lomb stock. I wish I would have grabbed two or three more pairs of Clubmasters - they were going for around $60!!

Oh well.........

I agree wholeheartedly that this thread shouldn't exist. I don't think it's elitist at all, I just like my Wayfarers =]

the tortoise are more stylish IMO.
they have more character, and if you have light brown hair it works really well.

from a distance they look black anywa, my oakley hyjinx are tortoise and they look black form far away but when its really sunny the brown blends in well.
