Raw Silk Ties? Such A Thing?

I purchased a RLPL tie off Ebay the other day from a seller with great feedback. The tie arrived yesterday and I noticed it had a couple snags in the silk. I emailed the seller about it and she said they are not snags and just part of the tie because it is a "raw silk tie" and shows things like snags. She is refunding me for the tie, but is there such as a raw silk tie or is it just nonsense?

Without seeing your tie in person or perhaps a good closeup photo it is hard to tell what you have. However, I can assure you that "raw silk" ties do exist. True raw silk is not generally used as the silk is generally not shiny and a bit messy to work with. Rough silk which is called raw silk in the west is used for ties from time to time, and will have snags which are part of its charm. Also handwoven silk (which is not raw/rough) will have snags. Actually this type of silk is perfect for pocket squares if you don't like your pocket squares to fall down in your suit pocket. If you visit our website you will be able to see lots of handwoven silks. When we use handwoven silks for ties we like to explain the silk a bit.

I have a summery silk Robert Talbott tie with slubs in it, so it's very possible that what she's telling you is true. You'll also see this in silk sportcoats quite often.

Do you have a pic or a link to the auction?

I suppose it's possible, but I've never seen a raw silk tie in any RL store, nor have I seen one advertised online.
