I have a pair of selvage jeans in which I am going to have them leg tapered and chain stitched hemmed, but before I do that I was wondering what's a good size for the leg opening considering I'm going to purchase a pair of Iron Ranger boots from Red Wing; and well I don't want to look like the leg opening is too small or too wide. My shoe size is 9 and the leg opening for the jeans is about 8-8.2 inches. I was thinking 7.25in for leg opening. Thus is 7.25 a good number?

not so fast.
if you make it too small, then tough S.
if you make it too large, then pay for a second alteration.
get the boots first. then have the tailor do the fitting over the boot.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
