RAW denim crotch wear out

Hi all,

I'm new to raw denim and I have a question regarding crotch area wearing out. Is it normal for a raw denim to wear out the crotch area so soon (almost every faded pair I see has its crotch worn out), or this is because in order to achieve some maniacal fading, it is being worn all day, all night...always :)

thx

This always happens with me, and then I send them to Denim Therapy in NYC to be repaired.

I think you didnt get me. I wanted to know if this happens to raw denim faster than the processed one denim.

raw denim has sizing in it (think starch) so the "corners" of the fabric (the hips, any cuffs, the backs of the knees, and yes, the crotch) will tend to abrade with wearing. if you wash your jeans prior to wearing the starch will be gone (for the most part) but over time your sweat, dirt, etc will accumulate if you go unwashed so you'll be in more or less the same boat

pretty normal I think and raw denim enthusiasts will put up with it. if the failures are in the fabric and not the seams it is pretty straightforward i think to darn the fabric back to life, which is what letsgofire is talking about.

some denimslutz will tell you that it's better to wear raw to achieve a hi-contrast fade but there are really no rules besides have fun, be you, and try not to get a staph infection. peace!
