I just noticed the posting about online tailors, and thought I should chime in--

Ive had Ravi do some work for me before, and it was pretty good.-- but...

I met with Ravi this summer to have him measure me for a Navy, 3 piece, 2 button, single breasted peak lapel suit.

Ravi took all the measurements, I went all out on the details, best fabric of his samples, etc. Was very specific in directions as to arm hole placement, sleeve length, etc. Order placed in July.

Suit arrived in September-- rife with problems. Sleeves too long (with working buttons), roll of fabric on the shoulders, chest and waist of the jacket too large, jacket at least an inch too short, waist of the pants too large, pants pockets flaring out, etc.

I took photos of the problems, as well as photos of a correctly fitting suit and contacted Ravi's.

To their credit, they agreed to take the suit back and fix it-- a somewhat dubious proposition, given the sleeves and jacket length.

Sent the suit back to them via express mail-- 3 weeks later (October 14th) I got notice the suit was on its way back via DHL with a tracking number.

As of today (October 30th), DHL reports the suit was never shipped-- an airbill was written, but no package shipped.

Ravi has not responded to any emails seeking clarification.

Luckily, I paid with a credit card-- and after faxing them 17 pages of documentation, receipts, and emails, I received full credit.

Anybody have a 3 piece in 38s they want to get rid of?

Fixing a sleeve length with working button holes (that is, from the top) is a big deal for an alterations tailor. But i don't think its a quite as big a deal for the factory that made the suit.

From what I recall, almost all MTM suits made by online tailors wind up looking terrible (even if you get measured in person). In just about every case, it looks like altered RTW would have been a better route. If you're a 38S, it shouldn't be that hard to find something decent off the rack.
