I'm curious who comes in dead last consistently.

Frankly, if it's the average, I place them all at the same level.

Based on my observations of New York and Tokyo, I'd say you definitely seem more well-dressed men in New York. Not that there aren't some very stylish men in Tokyo, but generally the Japanese tend to wear their trowsers high and their ties long. You also find a preponderance of black suits worn for business.

It seems like a lot of Japanese men consider dressing a mere chore. Some guys wear the same thing every day.

I'd say New York wins this contest.

having spent a decent amount of time in Japan, I agree that the typical Japanese is not very well dressed. The NYers I've seen are very well dressed.

LA is definitely the metropolitan slob capital. I may be the ONLY man in So Cal not to own a pair of flip flops, much less ever worn a pair.

It sure *seems* that Brits, Italians are better dressed but maybe those are only the images that I am made aware of, rather than the reality.

Having had quite a few Swedish friends, from Stockholm, they sure were a well dressed stylish bunch, in the streetwear sense.

Hahahhaha Milan is an industrial city. I found nothing special about it. The best dressed city in my opinion is Paris. Even though not everyone has great clothes, they wear it with extreme arrogance. The students are hilarious, all of them are dirty as hell.

During my visit to Paris, I enjoyed seeing people sport tight jeans with a look of casual superiority... and male camel toe.

It seems that the typical Japanese feels that dressing well would be seen as arrogating to themselves a higher station in life than they're due. The intense pressure to conform is the polar opposite of the expression of individuality characteristic of the States. In Japan, humility is more important. I think people express a certain humility by not dressing as well as they could. The younger generation seem to be expressing more individuality of style, though. I can think of a handful of guys at the company I work for who are quite stylish by comparison to the norm.

Glad to hear you say this about LA. This was my impression on a recent visit. I've never seen more innapropriately dressed people in one place in my life.
