This is the only gym in my area that has a power rack. This should be interesting…

I’m a bit intimidated. I weigh 56kg at the moment. I’ve nearly finished reading Starting Strength so I’m looking at giving that a go. Hopefully they just let me do my own thing.

I have a friend who is 6' 1" and weighed 57kg, I got him to do SS; I did it with him to keep up his motivation. I couldn't do anything about his diet, he thinks that eating an extra rice ball at lunch is a bulking diet but I did try to get him to eat more protein and fat. In 6 months he was leaner, 5 ~ 7ish kg heavier and a hell of a lot stronger. He quit lifting after that because we couldn't organise our schedules to go together. Now about a year later he is 70kg and probably at about the same body fat percentage or slightly higher than before he lifted.

Wait, how did he get to 70kg? Did he start lifting again? And to be honest, 5-7kg heavier in 6 months doesn’t sound too impressive. But then again, I’m a newbie.

I’m going to be taking this pretty seriously. I haven’t worked out my current calorie intake, but I’m looking at doing exactly what the book says to do. From memory, I think that’s 6000 calories for a dude like me.

    Fat.

He put on more than 5kg of muscle because he lost fat as well and his diet wasn't great. Then he gained all that fat back and more and kept quite a bit of the muscle. The post quitting weight is just a guess, he could be lighter or heavier.

I’m not sure if you’re recommending them or not? I’m trying to determine whether I should use these (I already have them) or buy some Converse. I’m in between jobs, so I’d prefer to save the money.

Made some overnight oats as someone recommended. They looking pretty yummy, not sure what to put in them. I might heat them up in the microwave oven, eating 3 cups of cold oatmeal might be too much.

That's the best type of gym to train in, if you go to a fitness gym (like i did) then it will be full of bros asking why you're squatting in the curl rack. At least the people in hardcore gyms generally have more of an idea what it takes to get big and strong, and their advice might actually be useful. I found it difficult putting up with some of the bullshit and advice, but really just stick to the routine and if you get results thats all that matters. And yeah, dont eat 6000cals, even 4000 would be overkill at your weight. I think aiming to gain about 2lb per week while on SS is a good target.
