Random health and exercise thoughts

    Prowler sounds like such a ball-busting way to burn fat. I wish I had access to one. I still do steady state cardio (mostly two-mile runs several times a week), but it doesn't compare to the balls-to-the-wall pace of stuff like complexes, Tabata, etc.

    I did some complexes this morning incorporating several movements I dislike (overhead barbell squat, barbell lunges) and felt like sprawling out on the floor after three sets. The whole shebang probably took seven or eight minutes, but left me more gassed than a 20-minute run would have.

    Since school is back in session, the campus fitness facilities are open on the weekend again. I foresee some two-a-days in my future.

    Calculated Bench 1RM was 215. Thought i'd test it out. I did 245. And i made some gym-friends.

    Today was a good day at the gym.

    Hanging out at my son's gymnastics class. Looking around, every parent is seriously obese. WTF do these people eat every day to get this way? I am glad they are at least getting their kids some exercise but gawd almighty, the only way any of them would make it across a mat would be if you put a donut on a string and dragged it in front of their nose. It is a truly sad and depressing spectacle of gluttony and lack of willpower. [​IMG]


    I wonder things like this myself. If i have 2-3 days in a row of eating a bit excessively I start to feel like a fat POS and tone it back down. I don't understand the utter indifference of health and appearances it takes to become obese.

    how do you calculate 1rms?

    I've used (1/30)*Reps*weight + weight again?
    so if you did 10 reps of 300 lbs (just to make it easy) it would be 1/30(3000)+300 or 400 lbs.

    Yowza. That's "only" 170lbs short of the unequipped world record and 450 short of the overall record (raw or equipped).

    Seriously. I was getting down on myself for not being able to DL 315 today--Pulled 285 no problem and, in my post-lift-pump-mode, i thought 3 plates on either side was 305, not 315, and that 30 lb jump was just too much--and then i realized that even 285 was pretty decent for my weight (150) and my length of deadlift training (~9 months).

    Still, I have a new goal.

    Anyone have that chart of what you should be lifting at each particular weight for the compound lifts? It was broken down into like... average man, 1 year of weight training, pro, or something like that.
