Right now I consume skim milk as well as heavy whipping cream and half-and-half which I make homemade ice cream with in a Kitchenaide. I used to be lactose intolerant as I did not consume milk for years and years. I apparently have retrained my body to digest lactose.

Ain't nothing wrong with milk if you like it and can digest it.

Sugars shmugars. Carbs all get broken down into sugars anyway. Yes, complex carbs keep you feeling full longer but from a pure weight gain/loss / muscle building standpoint, it doesn't really matter too much if you're getting your carbs from simple or complex sources.

I've tried both ways out and it doesn't really matter. Now I just eat whatever carbs I feel like eating that day. Sometimes it's sweet potatoes (I love them) and other times it's a bagel or toast with jelly, etc.

Pure milk can upset my stomach. Milk + whey is completely okay so worth a shot for any other lactose intolerant people.

Do you count your calories any longer Chuck or do you just stuff your face constantly with an "approximate"?

I only drink whole milk now (slightly a caloric density thing, mostly a taste thing - when I was a kid we only had 1% which suuuucked). Maybe 30-40oz a day, half of which is in shakes. If I drink it right postWO/with food I can handle it fine, but otherwise i feel bloated. Doesn't happen with icecream/yogurt/cream though, which is weird.

I count them most weekdays.. I also count on weekends, but only to make sure I've hit enough calories.

i think there is a misunderstanding.

i didn't mean lifting was messing with my metabolism/not going to the restroom regularly.

I know it is my diet as I am not eating enough since I now have to head to work (fitting in a quick breafast) then a 1hr lunch, not fully aware of what to pack. I bag almonds and apple slices. more so, I sometimes stay in the office till 6-8pm and by then i run out of food to eat.

so back to my initial question, how do some of you guys who work 8-5 jobs deal with this? do you guys pack heavy for the day?

Yes. This chart may illuminate things:

Not that my input is worth two shits, but my fire-code-violating mini fridge in my cube is a godsend.

@GetToasty, do you have a permanent cube at work? I fill the cupboards of mine with containers of nuts and protein bars (cue the boos). Just buy them in bulk at Costco or even Trader Joes. Then during the day, stop and have a snack 3-4 times a day.

This way you only have to go shopping a few times a year to stock up your cube with the snacks/calories/protein your body craves.
