    if he's being obnoxious and aggressive like following you around and chastising you, file a complaint. otherwise, look at him, say "duly noted" and continue on. pull a honey badger on that shit and ignore him. you really have to sincerely not give a flying fuck about what anyone in the gym thinks, says, or does. depending on the gym, 90% of the people you run into wont know their ass from a hole in the ground.

    unsolicited form advice is the fucking worst, especially when its coming from bros about squats/deadlifts. that being said, you've been complaining about your squat form for awhile now, so seriously, post a video of it.

    You need to say that a bunch of dudes in this one threak on this one clothing forum are very disappointed in him and that he should secure that shit + get some better gym steez.

    The individual you have described clearly has a problem interacting with others in a productive way. How did you respond to him when he asked why you ignored his advice?

    You've asked how to deal with him. I wouldn't file a complaint, but I would just tell him simply "I'm listening" and "I'm keeping your advice in mind" if it happens again.

    Interesting story, though. People usually aren't as bold at that guy.

    Ugh. My back pain came to a boiling point last week, when I woke up and could barely walk. I took the entire week off from everything, even low intensity cardio. Just rested up and did a lot of trigger therapy. It's insane how many trigger points I've had in my obliques and glutes, both of which I've suspected have led to the pain in the center of my lower back. Things were finally feeling better by the weekend, to the point where I didn't even have that vulnerable feeling in my lower back that I've had most of the time since injuring it in June.

    So like a fool, I took it as a sign to resume normal lifting activities on Monday. I did squats (about 60 or 70 pounds short of my max) and felt OK, if not a bit sore. The next day I felt a bit of lower back soreness and had crazy DOMS in my legs and glutes, which I kind of expected. I worked for my uncle installing carpet yesterday and by the evening, was back to feeling miserable.

    I'm just really frustrated, since it looks like I'll need to take more time off from lifting and probably extend that time off to several weeks just to be safe. So many people look at exercise as a chore. It's one of the few things I really enjoy. And I haven't been able to do it without pain for months. Sucks.

    and APK how did you get so beat up? you went from shoulder pain to back pain to cant even move. did you sustain repeated injuries or how did it happen?

    I do imagine a barbell leg press is perfectly safe with bumper plates unless the individual is quite the fat fuck...

    Deadlifting. It wasn't an isolated rep that did it. I just recall finishing a set and my back feeling, um, weird? Almost like getting the wind knocked of me, but not quite so extreme. I hurt my lower back twice many years ago when I was still all about the machines and such, but this was the first time my back had felt like this since I started "real" lifting. I took a couple of days off, but haven't done much deadlifting since then, because even when it doesn't ache, my back usually feels prone to injury. I've tried to work around it, but I suspect that's prolonged full recovery.

    The shoulder issue was just a trigger point that completely went away after working on it for a week or two. I think it's a similar issue with my back, since I have quite a few trigger points, both active and dormant, around where the back pain is. The trigger points are obviously tender (and painful) to the touch, but the area of the back that hurts doesn't actually hurt if I press that area.

    I guess I'll take a couple more weeks off, work some trigger therapy and see where I'm at. After that, I might just have to cough up the cash for an MRI to see if there's something bigger at play here.

    PK - I can relate. I'm at the end of my 2 weeks off and I'm still getting pain. Fuck.

    That barbell leg press is a sure fire way to a blown disc.

    So is it possible to get scapular winging by releasing trigger points in the rhomboids by having tight internal rotators? I was just doing some myofascial releases with a foam roller and tennis ball on my left scapula and now it is definitely sticking out more than the right.
