There's no easy answer to this question. Depends on what you mean by "lose bodyfat." Are you obese trying to get to a "normal" level? Or are you at 12% trying to get to single digits? The answer will be different depending on what your current level is. Moreover, you need to also pay attention to your diet - exercise and diet go hand in hand.

I'm already quite skinny at 140lb/5'9 but I have some bodyfat leftover around my waist/hip area from my 'bulk' one year ago. I want to get rid of it. It's not a lot and you don't notice it under my clothing but it obviously bothers me.

At 5'9 140, the problem is not the little pouch of fat you are carrying around your midsection, but rather you aren't strong enough. That sounds stupid, but really, what you should do is increase your major compound lifts. I feel it would be really bizarre to tell a 140 lb male that he should run to lose weight.

Buying a girly bar and bumper plates today. Overhead squatted a broomstick yesterday and it was A-OK. Time for power cleans and OS's!

I feel like I've been run over by a truck. Oh wait that's because I volunteered to be the throw dummy for aikido class last night. The next time I decide to do this I think I'll just run outside and get hit by a truck. It's easier and more effecient.

On a good note I'm going to order myself a nice new bokken from Kingfisher.

So how does one get started overhead squatting? I can't do a full squat with my hands in the air. What needs to happen here? FWIW I do regular squats as part of my routine.

I forgot what they're called, but they helped me. Use a broomstick or empty barbell and put it in a back squat position. Then practice squatting down into a full squat position while raising the bar overhead. You're basically squatting underneath the bar, and then rising out of hole with the bar overhead. These helped improve my balance enough to do overhead squats.

Not good, apparently. I think part of the problem is I can't get my arms to go far back enough. Maybe my chest is tight too.

    Thanks. Will try.
