    Did some extra hip hinge work after my pull session (gross) last night and decided to just do a ton of KB swings, caught myself in the nuts pretty bad at the end. [​IMG]

    Because of his injury i'd say he's better off guying higher reps, he's never going to be particularly strong with his back so I think he could more safely push himself with lighter weight and high reps.

    Yeah i've never had any problems fitting into trousers. I still wear 30" waist uniqlo stretch jeans.

    Yeah, that's why I'm going to push the weight realllly really slowly.

    I mean, at my strongest, my max Front Squat was 205, but I was pretty big for me. I'm pretty narrow shouldered etc in general so I'm really not a big guy. I'm sure I could have put on more muscle, but I couldn't fit in size 32 waist pants because my quads and hamstrings were too big. They were loose on my waist but regular pants started looking skinny. Gap Khaki's were not slim by any stretch of the imagination

    This is in the context of my having been a cyclist previously. I mean, I weighed 142-145 at 5'10 for the greater part of college. Ask @GraphicNovelty , I was skinny as shit. Though he didn't see me much when I was lifting so...

    Anyway, yeah. I'm never going to get huge so that goal is out of the window. I'm happy looking like I lift and maintaining a reasonable bf%

    Lunges, leg curls, split squats are my main lifts and I'll probably just use front squats for a pre exhaust.

    Also, is anyone's incline bench stronger than their flat bench? I'm getting back into it, and I could do incline with 185 for like reps of 8, but could barely do 155 on the flat...OHP max was like 155 as well haha.

    I'd agree, eventually, but for right now I have a hard time believing that 85 lbs at any rep range will do much. I have a chronic lower back issue as well, and find that it's very safe as long as you have enough supporting muscle to keep the weight from actually compressing your spine.

    I'd probably do pistol squats and lunges as the primary leg exercises, and slowly creep up the weight in the ~5-8 rep range on front squats, bailing out if there is any spinal pressure. Was it a ruptured disk or something else?

    Def not me. My flat bench was 195 paused and I've been doing incline for 2 months now and I still only use like 120-135lbs on sets to 15-8. Weak chest and delts, thinking it will help my bench a lot.

    That's super weird, I am back to doing 185x5 on the flat bench but can only do 100x8 on the incline, although I just started doing them.

    Are you doing them right?

    My incline is stronger than my flat. I tested them both 6 weeks ago for a college class and my 3rm was 55lbs higher on incline.
    But a lot of that's because low inclines are my primary lift on push days and when I do flats it's usually like twice a month, paused, and 2nd or 3rd movement of the day. Also, I think low incline in general is just a more adventageous angle than flat bench.

    Wait. Are you guys confusing incline for DECLINE bench? Decline (head lower than feet) bench will always be higher.

    My decline is lower then even my incline bench because the movement is awkward as fuck. Where do you even touch the bar to?

    lol no I know the diff between incline and decline. Like I said, low incline (45lb bumper under the head of the bench) is my primary push movement and I don't train flat bench often, so it better be stronger than flat. I do that because I've found it to be a better movement (for me) than flat. The only time I actually do decline is either on close grip bench or with dumbells as a pump movement (pause and hard squeeze at the top of each rep).

    Oh, I see. That's practically a flat bench anyway. My numbers are from a fixed bench that I think is at a 45 degree angle, the lack of chest involvement and greater ROM make it harder to push nearly as much weight (also I haven't trained it).

    At home I just have a flat so that's how I do the incline. When I go to the gym I get the adjustable bench and put it at the first notch (think its like 15 degrees) and put it in the squat rack. I find those fixed incline bench stations to be way too awkward.

    Nah, I'm talking straight up incline bench. I've been mostly using a machine for inclines lately, but last I did them with regularity and there was a huge difference between incline and flat. 30+lbs and I wasn't moving that much weight. I think inclines were always easier on my shoulders?

    Right now for chest I've been doing Flat BB and DB bench (I prefer db), seated incline machine, and pushups on a TRX thing so I have to stabilize everything. I'll probably switch to flat db bench and incline bb since thats how I used to do it.

    Guys! I can be the token weak guy of the thread. This is adorbs!

    @KingJulien , you might have low back strain issues, but trust me when I say that surgery is a different ball game. I couldn't work out for 3 years between injury and surgery/recovery so I'm honestly pretty weak in the low back. I can do walking lunges with 2x50lb db's which is half decent.

    If I fuck it up again, I'll have to get fused, which is about a year of recovery time and from there you're essentially going to have issues 10 or so years down the line requiring more fusions. This will likely be me in the future, but I'd like to push it away for atleast a few decades.

    Trust me though, I feel pathetic even using a squat rack for that little weight, but so it goes. I also try getting as close to atg as my flexibility will let me.


    I honestly think my anterior delts are just stronger in general. The difference of 30 lbs is quite a lot when you think about the % difference.

    I'm weak and this is a huge problem for me. It's mostly genetics, but it was certainly exacerbated by lifting. I went to the Suitsupply store and it was comical how tight the thighs were even when I sized up and had 2-3" of room in the waist. Men's clothing (esp. with the "slim fit" trend) is built for waifish marathoners and cyclists.

    Fuck. Today girlfriend dropped a bomb on me being all "I don't want to move when you do for b-school, I'm considering staying here and going for a dietetics degree that I decided to do today without talking to you about it." Asked her why she can't just do that wherever I'm going but she just doesn't want to move despite not having any family here and hating her current job. Fucking girls don't make sense, they don't even give logical reasons they just give you the causes of how they got to a conclusion which never make sense. We talked about moving and she was open to it provided she liked the city, and now she's just saying that she doesn't wanna move at all. And she thinks me saying we could move to Chicago which is two hours away, and involving her in the process of where we'd go, isn't actually compromising because I'm not compromising on the fact that we'd still have to move.

    My original school list was looking like HBS, Wharton, Columbia, Booth in that order, but was considering bumping Booth above Columbia because the living situation in NYC sounds horrific, though the idea of living in Hoboken and commuting was growing on me. She loves that fucking Cake Boss show too.

    I wouldn't mind living in Chicago for school and commuting by train up here on the weekends but I really didn't wanna do a fucking long distance thing. And I have absolutely no idea what I'd do if I got accepted to HBS or Wharton, I know everyone would call me an idiot for turning that shit down if I did that. I think I'd do the LD thing then. I also didn't see myself in Chicago post graduation, really wanted to move out to the east coast where the big boys play.

    In response to her fucking bullshit I went and upped my squat again, went to failure this morning. Felt fucking terrible/amazing. Walked two miles to work too. If I keep up this pace I'll actually hit 2xBW on my squat when I reach my goal weight.

    Make your life decisions with no regard to what your girlfriend wants and then see how/if you can incorporate her into the output of the above. Doing anything else would be stupid.

    Don't see what's so bad about NYC living situation, your living space may be small but it doesn't matter because you won't spend much time there.

    That's a shitty way of doing things. If you're in a long term committed relationship you should figure out how to get through things together not just say "hey I'm gonna go do this, no matter what, you can come otherwise fuck yourself." There's stuff you shouldn't compromise on, and then there's stuff you can. Like I'm not going to give up going to b-school or my career to stay with her, but I can compromise on some things (for example, if I got into Columbia and Booth but not HBS/Wharton, choosing Booth because it's closer to where she wants to be).
