Real talk: You don't need to be rich to own expensive pieces. Have different priorities and/or buy smart.

Am I missing out on anything by completely replacing back squats with front squats if I regularly do deadlifts and Good Mornings?

Are you training to clean and jerk? Even weightlifters back squat for a large part of a cycle and only exclusively front squat when peaking for competition. The problem with front squatting exclusively isn't that you will lack posterior chain development, its that your middle back and core will give out before your legs do. By only front squatting, your front squat numbers might go up closer to your back squat numbers but your back squat will not increase much if at all.

Unless you train for the snatch and the clean and jerk, there really isn't any reason to front squat. I see people in the gym all the time front squatting pussy weights and I really have no idea why. It really does nothing for them.

I always feel more activation and have more DOMS in my quads from front squatting then I do from back squatting.

Also, I have enough energy after deadlifts to do front squats. Usually my glutes are a bit too fatigued to effectively do back squats.

Seperate your deadlift day from your squat day? Or squat first?

Also, as Charly can confirm, DOMS is not really an indicator of a muscle being worked harder or a certain type of muscle fiber being worked.

You can try it but front squatting will almost never increase your max back squat where as back squatting will increase your max front squat and reserve strength. Weightlifters use back squats to raise the ceiling for their max front squat and max clean.

I mean, this is all from a strength training based perspective. if you are training just for aesthetics you could probably do whatever you wanted.

    Thanks for the advice.

The reason I ask is because due to my schedule I'm having to decrease the amount of days I can spend at the gym. I typically like to have deadlift and squat days, but am trying to see if I can consolidate them into a single day.

Deadlifting heavy and squatting heavy in the same workout is pretty tough.

Short answer = If you have to make a choice because of time, cut the deadlifts not the back squats.

There are lots of reasons for this, and I started writing them out, but decided against a really long post.

Deadlifting often and heavy is rough on body. Makes it hard to recover quickly. Maybe opt for clean pulls or speed deadlifts?

you can always rotate them weekly, do a few weeks on/off, or do low rep deads + high rep squats one week, low rep squats + high rep deads the next etc

i wouldn't think about it as "dropping" one movement in favour of the other

Did ATG squats today with 2 second pause at the bottom, after DLs.

80 kg for 5 reps was hard as f. But so worth it.
