Speaking of the general scam that is professional fitness, I went to my local Gold's to sign up for two months before we move mid-summer. They were doing a 10 bucks a month deal with "just a $1" to sign up. Well, as I walked in and got the contract all started, there were so many little caveats and issues that I couldn't believe it. I wanted to walk in and pay $21 cash - two months plus the idiotic fee. All of a sudden, w/ an unannounced "processing fee" that was some $26, taxes, other "dues" I was looking at over $50 for two freaking months. And then, they couldn't take my cash - rather they wanted my bank information to "assure" payment. Fine print included a clause that stated they could pull my monthly fee from my bank (which would jump $10 > $16 after two months anyways), and to cancel after my two months I'd have to not only give a verbal confirmation of a termination of the contract, but written confirmation 30 days beforehand.

I got up and walked away from the guy mid-sentence as he kept rambling on about all this crap. DO U WANT MY 1STBORN TOO?

Okay so I'm looking at my states records for powerlifting cause my brother and I are looking to compete come December and in my weight class seems like I could be very competitive. Squats are 440.9, bench is 325.2, deads are 578.5 (all raw and 20-23 age group). So my deadlift needs to come up alot.

So out of curiosity I decided to check out the Virginia state powerlifting records.

Raw for my weight class(165) open class is:
    369 squat, 292 bench, 462.9 deadlift, 1085.7 total.

    Couldn't believe they're so low.

I'm at the point now where it has a little bit. Weighed at 166 this morning. Bench went from 225x7 --> 225x6. Squat went from 315x8 --> 315 x7. Deadlift has remained the same at 315 x 8

Virginia doesn't have a huge powerlifting pool.

Usually records are more competitive in PA/NJ, the south, and the west coast.

I figured as much. A lot of the classes don't even have records set for some of the age groups.

    Unequipped records for Yorks: Squat 231kg (509lbs), Bench 155kg (342lbs), Deadlift 300kg (661lbs), Total 640kg (1411lbs)
Strong in the arm and good in bed.

A 550kg total would be enough to get to the British powerlifting championships.

Hmm, mine wasn't like that. There was only one extra fee that is assessed annually for maintenance of the facility (don't know/care) and no other fees. I signed a two year contract with a pretty hefty up front payment to get my monthly payments down.

Maybe each franchise handles payments differently?

I pay $29.99 for a fitness first membership. It's mostly good with the exception there are only two squat racks.
