a lot could be due to the russkies having literally their pick of the litter from a huge group of already well-trained, suitable weightlifters, add to that the fact that the elites do nothing else than train and compete.

also there are departments of weightlifting in russian universities.

I know someone will pitch in with the drug issue momentarily, but I think the sheer numbers are what make some of the best countries the best in OL. This is a fairly specific activity that requires certain attributes from athletes in order to make it to the highest levels (things like speed, flexibility, coordination, high prevalence of type 2b muscle fibers etc.) - the odds of finding dudes with just the right combination of these naturally increase if you have a larger group to pick from.

    e. lyle says it far better and wordier than I ever could

It is like this in most sports there, they had sports training centres in the USSR, when it broke up they abandoned the idea, now they're bringing them back and kids who show potential go to boarding schools where they focus on sports for about half the day.

How often are elite oly lifters tested for drugs?

also do any of you guys count your tonnage (aka weight times reps)? Out of lolz I did the calculation for yesterdays training and it's like .1 of what the true elites are doing, yet I'm still fucking toast.

warmups w/bar and stick, dynamic stretching, fucking around
    snatch
    40x3x2/50x3x2/60x2x2/65x2x1/70x2x1/75x2x1/77.5x1x1/80x1 (missed two times) PR/65x3x3

    hip snatch
    50x4x2

    snatch pull
70x3/75x3/85x3/90x3x3/95x1/105x1 (had to slap on the two last, for shits and giggles)

    front squat
    80x2/90x2/100x2x3

    ab work

    total tonnage = 5192.5kg

upper back failing on FS will not be corrected by shoes son

The word is that some federations are more lenient and some are more stringent wrt this, but honestly I haven't the faintest. I just enjoy watching dudes haul massive weights overhead.

nope, it's as I said earlier. To clarify, afaik the national federations impose their own testing and report to the IWF or something.

It's always been just good ole chucks for me. Been using powerlifting stance since the football days, so about 5 years now. I do occasionally do olympic though, to change it up.

I'm upset I ordered them from a cross fit website, I'm funding kipping pulls ups and 30 rep snatches.

Cut my clen cycle off, 2 days early. Got really ill the last 2 days and I didn't want to put anymore strain on my body. These are the results

    body weight down 7lb
    8rm squat up 17.5kg
    1rm up 10kg
    inclien db bench up 4kg
    db ohp up 4kg
    tricep extension up 5kg

other lifts went up, but they aren't as important.

i wiki'd clen to see what the fuss was all about, and instead of "OMG DRUGSSS" i got "and yes, people will use this for weight loss. alberto contador, lol." no real description of how or why or its dangers
