1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

Would have thought they'd be more likely to buy gold Rolexes.

So do fine wines and comic books. Both are also terrible investments. If you want to make money, actually invest it. The only real reason to buy a non-Timex watch is because you like it. It's a fine reason. No need to adulterate it further.

I'm not advocating it as a retirement plan. Just saying that it's do-able, much like the other hobbies you mentioned. Wear/use your jawnz. :nodding:

Ehm... I would be careful to equate wines and comic books to certain, particular watches.

I would be careful to not equate watches with certain, particular wines and comic books. In general, watches do not retain value. Yes, certain, particular watches, sure. But that goes for any number of categories.

Sigh. I don't know why you are being so hard headed and obtuse about this. Some watches make for good investments (if you know what you are doing, time the market well, have the right connections, etc.). This was said, with some of the details implied, pages back. You then came in with a broad and sweeping characterization that watches make for terrible investments. While this may be true in most instances, I would caution you to be careful about painting this subject with broad strokes.

Do you know whats an actual good investment? Stocks, bonds, mutual funds or a combination of all three. Otherwise it's just a convenient way of rationalizing an expensive purchase, not that there is anything wrong with that

Can the same be said for wine and comic books? Maybe. I don't know. But because I don't know, I would not say "all wine and comic books make for terrible investments." Why? Because there are probably a few - a few - comic books and bottles of wine out there that might make for a good investment. But I don't know that. So I won't touch that subject.

Now belts... truly do make for terrible investments.

Not all stocks, bonds, and mutual funds are good investments. Some are. Some aren't. Much more likely to do well with these investments than the ones discussed on the previous page, however.

You know what's the worst investment of all? Spending time to read a Moo post.
