1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

    Cheers,

Could not find the customs thread, but I though one of you gents could answer a simple question for me

I want to order an item from Spence Clothing....I could swear I heard they hit you with high customs and won't take off VAT. My problem is the item I want is around 1K.....what am I looking at here $300 in customs/fees?

Depends what they declare the value of the item at. Also its complicated to calculate because it depends on what the materials the item is made of to where it was made. Usually 10-30 percent is what I've gotten hit with.

ime it should be in the 200-300 range
dependent on the carrier that delivers and their brokerage fees (dhl, ups, fedex, tnt, etc), or lack of it (usps)

That first guy's gotta be like 5'2"...
But the materials and construction are super nice on them. Can't say I've come across any fashion jackets that feel nearly as robust.
    Thing weighs like 10 pounds.

Any company that charges VAT on goods exported outside the EU is ripping you off. Charging a government-mandated tax not due and then pocketing it is unacceptable.

    This might be helpful

    http://www.dutycalculator.com/

Note, you can only use the site once, so choose your descriptions carefully. After you've tried it, you need to pay some fee in order to calculate a new import.

FWIW, I find that customs and duties can be a really variable thing, and there's often little rhyme or reason to it. A lot can depend on whether the people at the border decide to tax you on your order. Sometimes things just slide through, even if they're supposed to be taxed. Also, the tax code can be very, very complicated. A lot can depend on not only where the item was manufactured, but also where the components are from. In bespoke tailoring, for example, I know just 1% of cashmere can throw you into a whole new tax bracket, jumping the percentage points up from something like 10 to 40 (something like that).

I would use that calculator as a way to figure out what's the highest you could pay, but not actually what you might pay.

I was told that if you email Spence, you can ask them to ship using EMS rather than their default UPS/DHL. This should remove some surprise customs fees that may pop up. But since your item is 1k, you'll probably still get charged, but that duty calculator will be more accurate. Also them not deducting VAT is pretty annoying, but nothing you can do about it.

I dunno but looking around there are several cuts of it. Traditional, slim and normal length and long length. I think I had the long slim cut one. Don't know where it fucking went either... might have been stolen from my car when it got broken into never was exactly sure what was in my trunk. Ohwell next time I'm getting the shorter version the long version didn't really make sense given my height.. There are a few variations too. the history preservation versions have red lining and some have that logo on the arm. Mine was black lining, no logo. Probably want to repeat that.

    History preservation has:

    Buzz Rickson’s
    Black MA-1
    Intermediate
    Flying Jacket
    Original Full Cut
    William Gibson
    Collection

    and

    Black MA-1
    Intermediate
    Flying Jacket
    Modified Tailored Cut
    William Gibson Collection
