1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

I think I can bring this full circle:

If your friends are annoying enough that they can't pay a bit more and split the bill evenly just to simplify the process for everyone involved, here is what they can do. I can see this working especially well even if everyone is paying with a credit card.

Split the bill evenly, then add tip based on how much more your meal was, so that those with expensive meals tip more to make up for it, and those with cheap meals leave little or no tip. The wait staff gets the full tip they deserve, and everyone pays what their meal cost + tip.

For example: 2 people go out to lunch, and one buys a meal that is $20, and the other buys a meal that is $15. The bill comes out to $38.11 after tax, right? (pretend we're in New York). Both people insist on using cards because it's fast and you don't have to deal with change, and the one with the $15 meal insists on paying less because they're annoying. Let the server split the bill to just speed things up in the restaurant, because it's lunch after all, so $19.06 each. The tip amount is $7.62 because why bother doing any more math than moving the decimal and doubling, so then you just come to an understanding where the person with the $20 meal pays a little more in tip like $6 or $7 maybe and the other pays the $1.62 difference, and it all happened so fast and there were no headaches and no time-consuming errors where the server swiped the wrong card or put the wrong amount on or no waiting for change or no asking for change and and and and please don't actually be the type of person that insists on not splitting a bill evenly. just don't.

That's a great theory c4est, but I have the feeling the waiter is going to be the one getting shortchanged on that. It leaves too much room for "I paid my share. If the waiter gets stiffed it's not my fault." In my experience if the leaders of the group will speak up and say "Split it 6 ways?" like it's assumed, most people will just be too embarrassed to argue. If they demand their own bill, then yeah they're annoying and cheap and it's best just to let the waiter split it up and pick your battles elsewhere.

My friends and I usually assign a guy to figure out the tip and the split. Or, one person picks up the entire bill, with the assumption that someone else will pick up the bill the next time
The second is common with Chinese friends.

I really prefer the second option. I have a lot of friends who will secretly pay the bill ahead of time

Looking for recs on insoles, and they gotta check a few boxes:

-For boots, size ~10 (Not sure if size matters)
-Want them to fill out the boots a little
    -Not super padded
    -Deodorizing a plus
    -$10 and under appreciated

    Also, cheap/decent shoe trees?

I don't see anything wrong w/ not splitting the bill in some situations. My gf is allergic to alcohol so is it fair for her to always pay $5-10 more at every group dinner because it would make it easier for everyone, even if it's not that much $ each meal?

Btw young people nowadays use venmo to great effect...as I found out when I suggested c4est's strategy and everyone looked at me like I was calculating shit with a friggin sliderule.

I had a pair of John Varvatos gloves bookmarked from winter collection on sale for 40% off past couple months. Yesterday I decided to purchase but they were back at full price and the link was hidden/removed from the site. I called the number on the page and the guy tells me they're no longer available and the order would be cancelled if I were to complete the purchase.

Ten minutes later I remembered you can never trust anyone getting paid minimum wage or near it so went ahead and made the purchase. Just got a shipping confirmation and tracking number for it today.

If there's a large discrepancy, then of course it's a different story. I wouldn't expect someone who doesn't drink to split for the alcohol. My post mainly refers to people who are like "I didn't eat any of the queso" or mine was only 8.50 and yours was 9.75, etc.

Nice, found some Taccos that deoderize for under $10...How do I size? Like if I'm buying them for boots tagged 42 but that fit more like 43/43.5, do I get 43/10?

I hate when motherfuckers underestimate their share and don't consider tax and tip. Solution? Always order expensive ass shit to make sure you're getting what you pay for.

Only once in years of service did I have a table ask me to split a check by item. I looked at them like they were aliens and my manager looked at me like I was an alien when I asked him to do it, required a comp code so couldn't do it myself.

Went on a trip to attend an academic conference recently. School was reimbursing everything but required detailed receipts. Dinners out, we had to split the checks several (6 or 7) ways for expense reports and I hated it. A couple of times I tried to just pay the whole bill to avoid it but people refused.
