Now I feel like a hater.

Don't -- I like your post, anyway.

I think it's a bit dishonest and easy to insinuate that people that might not like this collection prefer statements over good clothes or that they can only enjoy fashion as something more cerebral, or that they want something esoteric or more spectacular (or even something totally new). It's an argument thrown around everytime we try to have a discussion about fashion outside the confines of pure commercialism and frankly it's just bullshit.

I wasn't trying to make such a sweeping generalization, but I realize it appears like I was. Sorry.

The risk of the DB haircut would be that people might mis-identify you for wanting to be skrillex

Also, I hate that Haider won't do men's.
For quite a while Haider was really just some draped fabric and a backwards cardigan or two held together with some intelligent belting, so coming up with your own looks wouldn't be horribly challenging if you're so inclined.

Really excited to see all the discussion about YSL - will have to jump in myself later today with some more fleshed out thoughts, probably in the Runway thread lest it get lost lost in the chatter here.

Mismo's doing their bi annually storage sale this weekend, at their showroom in Copenhagen.

Up to 70% of on samples, show samples, factory seconds and old models.

I'm panning on doing a proxy on friday, so let me know.

totally random fashion thought:
it's interesting how the more time we spend paying attention to fashion, the more open we become to different pieces/silhouette/etc. Granted, I come from a small farming town and my exposure to fashion was incredibly limited before coming to college/finding sf/sufu, I remember when I first joined and someone (probably scott) was telling me how blazers/tailoredwear looked best on small dudes and I literally couldn't imagine wearing a casual blazer. it was just something that wasn't on my radar. A few years later and I probably wear some form of casual blazer at least 50% of the time. it's kind of neat to watch how one's tastes change as a result of exposure/knowledge.

this whole thought came about as I was debating buying an EG shawl. I love how they look in the look books but I had a moment of questioning whether i would have the balls to wear it around campus. it brought me back to the when i first started wearing cropped/rolled pants and was self conscious (even though I liked it i worried other people wouldn't), then the first time I wore my eg blazer out i was kind of worried it would look too "formal" or whatever to everyone else. kind of went through the same thing with that red denim jacket i have, my friends still joke about it, but i like it and like the way it looks.

I had this same experience regarding developing a much broader taste for different styles. i actually started being interested in fashion and doing waywts on something awful of all places (little tiny subforum of fashion/clothes), and it was crazy to think about wearing stuff other than ultra skinny jeans, ratty vans/toms and dark flannel buttondowns. then i had an even bigger mindfuck once i'd got used to the sort of fitted americana look that was prevailing on that forum at the time, got here and on sz and saw yohji, damir, CCP, rick, etc- all these forms and silhouettes that flew in the face of tailored chinos, ocbds, and redwing boots. and i'm right there with you on taking a ribbing from family and friends- i grew up in a small town in louisiana just north of new orleans, and I go to school in Memphis TN, so mainstream ideas about fashion pretty much begin and end with polos, cargo shorts, and sneakers- northface pullovers if its cold :D

How has your style evolved over time?

I guess it was a natural progression. When I used to skate alot I used to wear skate gear and shoes. I’ve been into sneakers and just adding on and refining my wardrobe. I don’t really like to be noticed too much because of my clothes. I like to be low key. I’d describe my style as “casual friday” with a twist. I wear New Balances all the time and be looking like a dad, you feel me?

What are you inspired by?

I guess I’m inspired by normality. I don’t really care about fashion but normal people inspire me. Day to day life and seeing people rocking regular clothes. I’d be inspired by to flip it and do my own thing with it. For example trench coats are being associated with business guys and formal attire but I’m gonna wear it my own way and throw people off. I really like clothes that are athletic inspired because of the sneakers and practicality but really I’m just doing what’s comfortable.

It's more the colors - If I lived next to a vibrant market with beautiful silks everywhere and tradesmen yodeling on every corner I'd be more inclined to bargain for fabrics and drape them all over myself. As it is, though, I'm not going to buy a Jcrew cardigan, cut the sleeves off, and hand it around my neck.

But, I could say that about any designer:

"If only I lived in 19th century Paris!"
"If only I was a member of the landed British Gentry!"
"If only I lived among the Mongolian reindeer herders, living my life as a nomad on the open plain!"
"If only I ran a 24h fitness on Dagoba!"
"If only I lived on a space station!"
