Well, the shark was my idea, I just didn't have a big enough glass tank handy.

I simply don't have the means of my ideas. I blame SFers not buying my Schneider wares.

Don't do it for me, do it for Art.

Calling Lichtenstein "theft" is like the most myopic thing ever. The original is mass produced, printed from ink to newsprint on a halftone pattern. Now he took that image and painted each dot by hand, basically taking something machine-made and transforming it into something hand-made. And there's all sorts of symbolic/cultural/whatever baggage that goes with it. That in itself is what makes the picture original.

You don't have to like it, but calling it theft is retarded.

I think everyone can agree it sucks for the author of a splendid but overlooked book whose work is adapted into a giant blockbuster by some name-brand director who proceeds to get all the fame and the credit. That doesn't mean it should be prevented from ever happening, and I don't want to get into what we term the overarching process, even in shorthand, but it certainly sucks for the original guy.

And writing that reminded me of this:

The original was not mass produced, it was done by hand. Then it was mass produced. Then L traced it by hand, mass produced it again, and sold it.

(where did my big long poast go?)

I get it, it's just lazy, it's dishonest (ask the original artists how they feel?), and even the idea was by that time unoriginal (or, in SW&D terms, *played out*).

Edit: also I wish I wasn't on my tiny phone; shortcuts making these last posts sound more contentious than intended.

Too bad you're a giant. Why aren't you Asian? I would spend money on your sweaty pants.

I've read that it is hard. :rimshot:

After seeing that WAYWT post with the dude wearing the beads it reminded me that I've been thinking about picking up some bead necklaces from that HomerJ dude.
