    AIE VEE - Cuyahoga Autumn/Winter 2012- 2013 Collection

The debut collection of New York based Menswear brand AIE VEE draw its inspiration from the disastrous effects of human action on nature. The line is entitled Cuyahoga, a name taken from Iroquois that translates to “crooked river”. At least 100 miles long, this waterway is located in Northeast Ohio and is infamous for being “the river that caught on fire” due to heavy industrial contamination.

Cuyahoga is a journey through the AIE VEE's designer Joseph Aloysius Williams IV coming of age alongside the burning river. It is a reflection in which innocence is tainted and faith is lost, like the irreversible alteration of the river's water to an unnatural state. To convey the process of contamination, the collection begins with natural bone whites that gradually disseminate into shades of dense fog, ultimately fading to black. Fabrics were dyed using a layered process inside vats containing sample water from the river itself. Heavy washed-linen jackets and pants were stiffened and waterproofed with accelerated oils and natural pigments, such as carbon and zinc, using a technique dating back to the Civil War. The tanned leather pieces are like soft armors and their curved seams refer to the Cuyahoga River’s geography. Handmade sterling silver hook closures and jump rings add militant closures to the garments.

The collection is a powerful reaction to the destroying touch of a cold human, contrasting the decay with ist profound and melancholic poetry.

haha I thought the same thing when I saw it, but then I remembered most stuff goes on the company card and my last flight was paid for by a friend. I think in 2012 I want to reverse the shopping and travel bars, hence the "reality check" of it all

no use traveling if you can't be the most fresh Ambassador for your Country! At least you go out and eat. I don't even do that.

For me, dining would be number one. I also spend a lot on travel because my family is all over the place. Wish they'd come here once in a while. :plain:

^ Whats wrong with the logo.
I can almost see a kinky white boy washing his body in Old Spice, sprays Axe, then wearing a polo with a girl pulling down her underwear.

^^ I think that stuff has cropped up on Gilt before. All of the logo and graphic stuff (so, basically everything) looks really tacky, not to mention that the logo would be unacceptable anywhere outside of a bottom-of-the-barrel lad mag or a college frat house.

Some of my categories (percentage of overall spending):

    Auto & Transport: 20%
    Food & Dining: 11%
    Clothing: 5.5%
    Travel: 3% [IMG]

I was going to rag on you for not spending enough on travel but then I looked at my own figures. Damn.
