    ^^ The Corner?

Ever have one of those days where everything you hear sounds like something else? Pandora just played a Helio Sequence song that sounded just like a Modest Mouse song (after they stopped being good), and now it's playing a Dinosaur Jr. song with a guitar part that sounds like a David Bowie song.

There's probably a larger message here.

When I saw this it made me wonder if that's a standard message available in the UPS system. For example, I have a package that was supposed to be delivered today and they didn't show up. This evening the tracking updated with the standard message "Adverse weather conditions." Aghhh!

Modest Mouse stopped being good or started selling more records? (I stopped paying attention -- possibly indicating the former).

Derailments are a daily occurrence on the North American freight rail network. Nearly 4x a day on average to be exact. Most are minor incidents and rare are the disasters of the scale of Graniteville or Chatsworth, yet still about 10 people die every week in train accidents (almost all trespassers on tracks) and 10x as many are injured

Yes, their last good album was The Moon and Antarctica in 2000. The poppy, radio-friendly Good News for People Who Love Bad News sounded their death knell a few years later. They've had at least one album since then, but I haven't kept up.

The key point is that they're supposed to "guess" people's intention using qualitative and quantitative techniques and a theoretical background that are borrowed from the social sciences (mainly cultural sociology, anthropology of the present, psychology, post-structuralism, media studies, British cultural studies and even Marxism) not pull theories out of their asses. I'll easily grant you that, in practice, they mangle the stuff beyond recognition but that's why marketing is mainly hogwash.

Look, cultural stratification among classes using a low brow, middle brow and high brow model has been decreasing steadily for decades and omnivorous cultural consumption has emerged as the dominant models of cultural elites (i.e. I read girls manga but listen to Béla Tarr movies and so on and so forth). In other words your hunch is entirely false. On the other hand it is true that EVERYONE has diversified their cultural consumption when compared to an hypothetical average man of the street so you have less of a dominant model with a few programs watched by 90%

To find out about the traditional model and the framework that has been used to develop newer models read this:

To find out about omnivorous consumption:

    A classic book on television:

So I was looking through the amex entertainment access stuffs and saw that you can buy tickets to meet patrik ervell backstage during fashion week after the show. Not sure what that's all about, you NYC'ers should look into it if you're into that sorta thing.

I wouldn't wear any of these shoes but that's a really good collection and it seems to suit you.

I loved Immortals for sure, it was my Transformers - turn off the part of the brain that process speech and causality and shit and just watch the pictures go.
