New Lanvin trousers at Ssense. They are the same brand, same season, obviously.

One pair is 87% cotton, 10% polyamide, 3% elastane -- so, the cheapest natural fibre mixed with some synthetic pop-bottle crap -- and priced at $1150 even though apart from the vivid red colour, they are thoroughly basic pants (with no details or embellishments that I can see).

The other pair is pure silk, but because they are "lounge pants," they only cost $495 (though I would imagine an elasticized waist is actually more costly/time-consuming to produce).

This isn't even about "how/why do they charge so much?" any more. It's a question of consistency. If your cotton pants are $1100, your silk pants should not be less than that, let alone under half. Or if your silk pants are $500, cotton pants should not be more than twice as much. What mad alchemy of stars, entrails and tarot card readings produced this silliness?

I think I can explain a little bit of the Lanvin thing.

The silk pants you talking about is matching item with this hoodie. They are made of same material. It's 100% cotton and 100% silk.

It has a liner cotton construction then they adda silk layer. It's a super thin layer just give it a out shell layer effect. It's a very subtle detail.

The red pants are a bit off. I cannot say too much but here are some reason I guess.
I think the pants is from runway, for runway stuff, Lanvin's price is higher. For the cut, I se no difference, I agree with you. I think it's a matching pants with a jacket?
In terms of material, I think Lanvin has a different idea of the material. They are not Cucinelli, who consider cashmere are the finest material. Just an example. The Lanvin material sounds cheap but it's not most of time. I have no idea how they do this, but my point is even for same cotton tee, Dior's Egyptian 100% mercerized cotton > Old Navy's 100% cotton and they both labeled cotton. My point of Lanvin here is their fabrics are rare. and the "cheap" material does not looks like in person. I don't know if you ever into women's couture/RTW thing, but I few Chanel/Dior/YSL/Fendi RTW stuff I handled are all contains some of the synthetic fiber. I think maybe it's about texture.

I was saying I understand why they price is too high. But Yes I agree it's expensive.
