New Lanvin trousers at Ssense. They are the same brand, same season, obviously. One pair is 87% cotton, 10% polyamide, 3% elastane -- so, the cheapest natural fibre mixed with some synthetic pop-bottle crap -- and priced at $1150 even though apart from the vivid red colour, they are thoroughly basic pants (with no details or embellishments that I can see). The other pair is pure silk, but because they are "lounge pants," they only cost $495 (though I would imagine an elasticized waist is actually more costly/time-consuming to produce). This isn't even about "how/why do they charge so much?" any more. It's a question of consistency. If your cotton pants are $1100, your silk pants should not be less than that, let alone under half. Or if your silk pants are $500, cotton pants should not be more than twice as much. What mad alchemy of stars, entrails and tarot card readings produced this silliness?
