Wow, just saw the 'beat meat' thing. I'm typing from my phone, must have auto-corrected. lol.
I'm in 2012, I'm still alive so far.
Bonne année et bonne santé à tous !
Seriously. This is fascinating. I had no idea about some of this stuff:
Somewhat tangential, and I don't have any sort of coherent or complete thought regarding this idea, but I like the concept of the "male gaze" and the extent to which forum members subject themselves and each other to it via WAYWT on this and other such forums.
I don't think there is a TOJ backlash; the brand is hugely popular among styleforumners (haven't really read sufu in a while but I assume its the same over there) and its thread gathers a lot of discussion. I don't think we can classify TOJ in the "just nice clothes" category as I don't feel that category exists. Everything is linked to styles and cultural associations, it's just some are more dominant here and seen as default. With that said I agree with your assessment; a lot of people should think hard before getting leathers that have nothing to do with the rest of their wardrobes. I guess leathers are the new designers sneaker...
Around williamsburg, you can't throw a can of PBR without hitting some weinery looking dude wearing a double rider-style jacket (mostly perfectos) that inevitably looks way too badass for him and is totally worn in an incongruous way.
(whoops, nvm. I totally misread that due to page loading on my tiny phone )
To this day, I still haven't found a leather jacket that I like.
i find it surprising that girls like Dinosaurs!
saw this on SZ lol
lol. Luckily, sneakers and leather jackets (cafe racer styles and "cowboy" styles, mostly) have been staples of my wardrobe for years. I've been wearing the same uniform for about a decade now, with the silhouette evolving with time, and with the price increasing.
fok, what do you tend to wear your racer jackets with? i know this sounds weird but wearing collared shirts feels with my toj moto feels 'off' which eliminates a solid 30% of my tops
^ similar question but in regard to VTG CM. Mostly wear button ups and crewnecks would this look odd?
I haven't worn a collared shirt except to presentations for years now. I wear sweatshirts (usually crewneck), thermals, thermal henleys, and pullover sweaters. Wearing a moto with a collared shirt reminds me of dudes who work in a bank but still want to be cool.
