Re: fiction worth reading—the best novelist ever to come out of Brazil was a guy named Machado de Assis. Start with "Epitaph of a Small Winner." It's in the vein of Tristram Shandy. Susan Sontag called Machado the greatest writer Latin America ever produced. I'd definitely say top 3, at least.

The thing that bugs me most about the #menswear b.s. is that these guys all look exactly the same. There doesn't seem to be any individual style involved. They're just collections of trends. I ripped on Nick Wooster a bit but at least he has his own style and he's not just aping what he sees elsewhere. (Same for Milan Vukmirovic and a handful of other blogger idols out there.)

the idea is that if you send money as a "gift" then the seller is protected because the buyer can't ever claim a problem... because they sent it as a gift. paypal just treats gift payments as regular purchases though, so no dice.

Ha no, totally sincere. Rules of Attraction was the first book I ever read that really spoke to me. I read it during a period of college when I was doing a lot of drugs and fucking a lot of girls and I felt really shitty about everything.

    Deal with it.

I would wear those. Or at least, I'd give them a shot.

Which should absolutely hold true. While the OP in that MC thread was probably in violation of Paypal's Terms of Use since he requested a gift payment for what was clearly not a gift, the sender of the gift should be without recourse unless the senders credit card was charged w/o permission.

Also, that thread is just weird. I guess at some point that Spoo dude offered to perform some sort of surveillance on the dude who sent the gift so that they could find out where the person lived.
