1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

i don't even strictly mean it as an insult, just they're both things that i can't wrap my head around at all, despite how common they are.

the one difference is that i don't really hold watch aficionados in contempt (and why would i?), whereas i abhor foot fetishists. those dudes almost universally have zero sense of tact or personal boundaries.

I find it fascinating that you actually know foot fetishists. How does that happen? Are they people you just "run into" in daily life? Are they everywhere? Has anyone alerted Trump?

Watches are just incredibly fascinating mechanical devices. I can't think of that many other things these days that function with mind-blogging precision, without any CPU or even batteries - simply powered by a wound coil that unwinds over 36-48 hours into a set of metal gears.

I'll do a part 2 for you soon, then.

Real talk: there is a fine line between self-deprecating humor and depressing reality, as there is between gentle mockery and outright dismissal.

On the one hand, I try not to think less of a group of people with a niche kink just because I don't understand it and it has no appeal for me; on the other hand, I'm pretty sure there were multiple posters on the forum who (totally unsolicited) outed themselves as foot fetishists, and all of them were utter and astonishing asshats (see: whatever123).

Cue podiatrist chiming in about how the foot is the most fascinating part of the human body, responsible for walking, running, balancing, &c. with stunning proprioceptive accuracy and consistency.

I remember a few years ago my friend Angela had a rude awakening when she google imaged searched herself and one of the associated image searches (you know how they appear at the top) was "Angela [surname] feet". I guess that's when you know you've made it

to be fair, partisan fan was quite polite himself. it may have been been futile to explain any opposing views to him, but he was civilized and i would rather his repetitive droning than the neocon barbarity that has supplanted him.

you're not alone (because, really, no man walks alone)

i mean, afaik no one i know personally is a foot fetishist, but some of them probably are in the closet about it. virtually every woman i know has scads of stories about foot fetishists they were hit on by or went on a date with (key word being "a").

yeah that's fair enough. you would think as an engineer i could "get" it due to that, but i still don't.

yeah don't me wrong, in general i'm not one to kink-shame and in particular foot fetishism is pretty tame, but i've never had a woman tell me a story about a run-in with a foot fetishist where the dude was mature and respectful about it. virtually every one of them is along the lines of the most recent encounter i was told about:

I mean, how am I supposed to dress well while biking to work and being ready to go hiking on a moment's notice? But yes, it's a travesty.

But... but... chronometer grade movements are accurate to +/- 1 seconds per day... That's 0.001% accuracy for gears powered by a coil. A coil!!!!!!
