There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

    Anyone on this?

If there isn't a general lookbook thread, anyone think there would be interest if I started one? Just something where people post links to cool lookbooks. Again, a thread not connected to a brand or even genre. Just a general lookbook appreciation thread.

Anyone else knew that OG Helmut Lang women's line was co-designed/styled by Melanie Ward?

I wonder how much influence and input she had, because a lot of his women's stuff seemed practical and wearable.
It didn't seem too out there and extravagant, like how some male designers go when making clothes for women.

In my opinion, his men's stuff later on became more of a spectacle and extravagant, compared to his women's.

There was a smart practicality to it, which reminded me of Jil Sander, but a feminine touch to it as well, which I see today in some of Phoebe Philo's work at Celine.

I wish there was someone who could fill his shoes, as a lot of his work is still relevant and wearable today.

Here's the interview for those interested.

I wasn't that interested in women's collections badk then, but certainly, a lot of pre-NYC stuff from Helmut Lang for men had a strong Bondage element, which was difficult to wear on the street, and in some cases, like the pants with straps between joining the legs (late 90s, someone give me the year), frankly, impedded movement a little bit as well.

No, the ones I was talking about had bondage straps between the legs, at the knees. Cool, but could make for an awkward bike ride/walk up a set of stairs.

How hard would it be to convert a zip fly into a button fly? I have these Margiela jeans I love but the bastards have gone full zip up on everything now. I have an excess of extra metal buttons that came with other jeans so is it as simple as taking it to the tailors?

it's not that easy. There are 2 layers of fabric on the typical button fly, and only the one on a pair of zip flies. Unless you are into the 90s girl exposed fly look, of course/

Hmm good point. My main problem is the zip is not concealed when zipped up so I get this half zipper half lighter color fabric showing. Maybe replace with a better zip?

Picture? I'm having a hard time visualizing this so a picture might be good for some better, more specific, suggestions.

It actually fits me a bit loose if you can believe it haha. The zipper just does that for some reason

Oh right, that silliness. Basically, the answer is no, there is no fix for that. I suppose that you could move the hook and eye, but that would be the only thing that could help.

A quick google search echoes what you just said. Looks like I am SOL.

Edit: Maybe I can take a page put of the ol' Margiela playbook and have a tailor copy this design seems plausible..

Yeah, the only way to possibly remedy that is to move the hook and eye closure.

Or if you want to take a page out of the Helmut Lang/Tom of Finland/Leather Daddy playbook, you can put metal grommets and chains on your zipper fly.

That will take focus away from your zipper.
