1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

    Cheers,

I'm interested in what you mean by Taiwan being different. The culture is probably somewhat less focused on shopping as a communal leisure activity, with food playing that role, but they still have tons of giant malls that don't exactly look empty (and they're pretty awesome, in a Singapore head-spinny kind of way)

In the sense that yes, they have some very nice malls but I didn't feel like there was much of a style scene that would be familiar to SF users. There's one area near the Taipei Main Terminal that had some nice, small boutiques selling stuff like Rick, Demeulemeester, Japanese specialty denim and the like, but I didn't get the sense that it's as prevalent in the way people talk about Tokyo, for example.

I do agree that the food seems to be one of the loci of Taiwanese life. Dozens and dozens of small restaurants selling myriad types of food. Most of it quite good and superior to the sugary, fatty and processed bullshit we get here in America.

I enjoyed my time there and it's a great place, though. A fantastic place to explore Chinese culture.

I'd love to hear an opinion from someone who has lived here long term, too. My armchair analysis is that the massive population influx and explosion of the tech sector has a lot to do with it. It definitely feels overpopulated out here, just something as simple as trying to grab a quick bite for lunch feels like much more of an ordeal than it does when I'm back home in Denver (which has also seen a rapid population influx lately and is beginning to get crowded).

Huh. Have we reached critical mass? Is it time for a Denver meet-up?

Haven't been on here in a while, which I think is part of why I've more or less reverted to a uniform of black jeans/white tee/black hoodie/white sneakers. Once you get away from the enabling peer group, it's really easy to lose interest in something that's so cash-intensive.

As a side note, the main reason I logged on was because I got a package in the mail from Korea, which prompted me to wonder what the heck ever happened to ToJ, and if I should actually expect to ever receive a jacket in the mail. A+ thread, would not read again.

Is anyone using Chrome having issues opening spoilers? I always get sent to the top of the page.

I've been wearing John Elliott co-mix t-shirts with suits lately, they look kinda like knitwear and nobody has said anything. Goodbye dress shirts

Thanks. Thought I was the only one. Guess I'll just use a different browser if anything.

This shouldn't bother me as much as it does but I just got a bunch of stuff back from the dry cleaner and they affixed those heat sealed barcodes on the inside collar of every jacket and I feel :(
