Somewhat. There are a few aspects to this though.
1/ Not everything we value is measurable, but often when we cannot measure what we value, we value what we can measure, which is very dangerous.
2/ Sometimes the data gives us one decision, but it isnt the "right" decision for our morals/values/ethics. So how much weight do we give the data versus the other dimensions. NYT op ed
3/ Confirmation bias is strong (which is really what the cited blog post is dealing with, I think). The psychology of this kind of thing can be quite interesting. See Solution Aversion.

These issues are all quite apart from one's capability in statistical analysis and/or data science.

I'll have to do some more Googling!

I attended a conference last week, and one of the talks was guilty of this kind of thing. It was a talk on how as a business sends more email, the email open rate drops. Which is fine, but the other side of the coin which wasn't mentioned is that even if the rate drops, the total aggregate opens increases, which is the real number you should care about (if you should care about open rate at all, which is another discussion).

I'll have to see if I can dig up those slides.

Just watched the movie. Very insightful and entertaining. I enjoyed Fog of War as well.

Here is a question for you guys. Should I keep the ToJ thread up (and no, the revenues from it are marginal, so that is not at all a consideration)? It is always guys grousing, but worst, I get grief for it, regularly. Should I just delete it like every other forum has done? I may be dumb but I'm not crazy, and I have enough on my plate as is.

Leave it and change the title to something like "the official toj debacle: will the world before they arrive"

Leave it as internet menswear history for people to look back on. Just lock the comment section at some point.

Let's make a "TOJ thread quote of the day" calendar for 2016.

As someone who's still got $$$ on the line, I really appreciate having a thread where some updates are posted. Sucks that people are giving you grief for it, but it is valuable for those of us waiting for jackets.

I understand your side, but I think deleting it would be pretty rough for the people who haven't gotten them yet
