1. I'd like to announce that animated avatars are now available again. You'll have to reload, but they are once more possible.

We've been doing a ton of work behind the scenes. The site load speed was already under 1/2 of what Huddler's was, on average, and we installed cloudflare, which means that the site should be even faster. A ton more will go on in the weeks and months to come, and some things will be more visibile, and some less.

    Cheers,

    Fok.

I dunno, their styling make everyone look like a GQloser while the product shot is just bland. Mr Porter should stop producing content, they're just not cool enough.

I wear kurtas, Berber jewelry and some African stuff, TBH I really don't give a fuck about cultural appropriation because it posits culture is a dead/unchanging thing. Sometimes I just think it looks ridiculous but then wearing a suit can look ridiculous on some people. Maybe watch statues also die by Chris Marker?

I like Susan Scafidi's take on cultural appropriation.

    http://time.com/2840461/pharrell-native-american-headdress/

I don't think that article Naka linked is about cultural appropriation though. I think it's saying that when non-Asian people wear kimonos, it touches on issues dealing with Orientalism. Which is ... kind of true?

I don't know if this means people shouldn't wear them, but it's hard to get away from those kind of stereotypes and historical legacies. When people wear RRL items with Indian heads or Visvim, they're also touching on Native American stereotypes: naturalistic, spiritual, anti-modern, pure, etc.

Here's a good article by Sarah Fowler. For the TL;DR version, you can just read the abstract (the first paragraph)

    https://escholarship.org/uc/item/77m340wn#page-1

Adrienne Keene at Harvard and Jessica Metcalfe at University of Arizona also touch on this issue -- of how Native American culture is used in fashion. Both of them have written extensively on Ralph Lauren (naturally).

I still have an RRL cardigan with an Indian head on it that I wear, and some Navajo jewelry. I don't think it's so much about X people can wear this and Y people can't (maybe it is, I'm not an expert). I think it's more about just recognizing that these themes exist and they're hard to get away from.

Really :deadhorse: here, but I'm sick of wearing nothing but athletic shorts every damn day because it's 90+ outside with sauna-like humidity.

Speaking of which, anybody have any recs for athletic shorts? Reigning Champ would be perfect if they had a soft, fleecy inside instead of terry loop.

Also, I tried on a pair of LVC 1944s, and even though they'd be totally superfluous and look pretty ridiculous now I kind of want a pair. The rise seriously dwarfs 1947s. I could fit like three of my ass in them and they still wouldn't feel snug.

The news channel covered the release and interviewed kids, who's parents didn't mind that they skipped school, so they could camp out for 3 days.

The current state of the sneaker game makes me want the sneakers less and less.
