What do people here think about cargo shorts? Say with a Tshirt or a very informal short sleeved shirt?

Only if it's 400$ and made by a Japanese brand ultimately parodying Americana

Most just don’t look very nice or well thought out (and then there’s the caustic frat boy and fat dad associations driving the stake through the heart), but I’m sure there are some exceptions. I think Wallace and Barnes for J Crew made a nice pair recently — some kind of military-looking green color with cool big square pockets, maybe in a ripstop fabric. Someone posted them in the waywt thread in the last few months, but I’m terrible at searching. I’m sure there are others.

yea the wallace and barnes cargos were nice because they were a ripstopp. To me they either gotta me extremely military (a japanese repro or actual vintage), or on the techwear side. Or they look super frat boy weekender gear

Yeah, that's definitely true. I actually found the ones you mentioned, and if I can get them on my side of the planet and they fit(doubtful) I'll probably get a pair.

I guess that's true. That being said, having all the extra pockets is super convenient.

They do look totally dorky suburban Dad or Frat Bro but they are practical. In rural Wyoming at the moment and will go hiking wearing cargo shorts. Need the pockets for glasses, phone, snacks, etc.

Nothing but T-shirt’s, golf wear, and Western stuff out here. Kind of fun to see various Western hats not worn ironically.

Old habits die hard. I carry a Camel Bak usually but will switch to an assault pack when I need to carry outerwear, rain gear or just more stuff. Prefer cargo pockets for easy sunglasses, eyeglasses, cell phone and trail mix access.

Amusingly my assault pack is the only piece of military gear I ever use anymore. Used it for years!
