At the surprise of nobody I would say Lemaire.
its expanded so much in recent years that I can fit whatever need and mood, I can even line my kitchen drawers with scented paper and get some artwork framed.
For the sake of convo though I could also happily wear Umit all day everyday, especially if he ever re-launches mainline or starts making footwear for B+
Jil and Howell would also be very easy for me to wear exclusively

I feel like Kaptain Sunshine is a bit more broad than Document for year around wear but those are definitely the two brands I considered for this. I think I just tend to like a higher percentage of KS stuff than Document and they seem to hit a few more marks for me.

I love KS but even the largest sizes are often too small for me, especially pants. I can wear almost any Document style in XL

As to current stuff, kind of hard to say because no single designer has caught my eye in such a total way.

Really? Just because I don't have the American over-enthusiasm for things, and I am generally in favour of a very different kind of society to the one we live in, does not mean I am not positive about stuff I like (go check the Reading Challenge thread or the Scent thread or any number of other threads I've contributed to here). The point here is, as @LA Guy astutely observed, there's a very different feeling to being engaged in a forum and listening to a podcast. I like the ethos of the webforum, and I am sad that it seems to be declining as a form, and I really don't enjoy listening to people talk about style. This isn't a bad take or a matter of being "far off" or negative – it's simply a personal preference. And I would rather that Derek was back here contributing and being engaged (just ignoring the green oxford folk)...

i also generally don't listen to webcasts as i find them inefficient and would rather skim a transcribed interview in a fraction of the time . i find it somewhat offensive as a prospective listener to see 1 hr + running time and you listen to the first 10 minutes and it's ghastly unprofessional broadcasting . i did try that savas pod but hung up b/c it wasn't good . the archived DWW one was blessedly only like 15 minutes so i gave it a go . was not disappointed when he uncorked the ' fashion is social language ' stuff haha 😍

Agree with these two takes. I find the vast majority of podcasts to be full of filler (I do like narrated essays, however, as they mostly lack this) and are incredibly inefficient mediums for searching and absorbing information. I come to places like Styleforum because I like seeing how people from diverse backgrounds far different to my own dress for their various lifestyles and locales. Podcasts are limited in the number of voices providing perspectives and they lack the visual element (if it's audio only) which is incredibly important for something as superficial as fashion. If the podcasts are on video and have some form of slide show of images or short video clips if not demonstrations by the podcasters, it still feels excessive to need 10 minutes+ to communicate that. I'd also conjecture as a commercialised medium content creators would support a kind of lowest common denominator perspective that appealed to whomever their core audience was. I'd prefer more varied and genuine perspectives, even if those aren't always professionally communicated.

I might be projecting but I imagine as we have all gotten older and more confident (or at least satisfied) with our personal aesthetics, we probably have less incentive to put the effort into photographing (and hopefully articulating in prose as well) our looks to share on places like here. I know a few of us have somewhat popular social media presences that demand regular content (like Gerry who I follow on Instagram); and I know if I did not have that I'd have very little incentive to photograph myself after taking so many over the years. So whether it is a case of the task being a chore, or there's too little reward since I imagine most of us are far beyond needing validation from one another (or even wanting it if we have radically distinct styles? Does someone like Regis care if someone who only wears Yohji or Uniqlo doesn't get his style? I doubt it). Instagram, and especially Tiktok, are a young person's game for fashion, so I feel it would be nice that if this place becomes contracted, we can continue to talk about the clothes that inspire us, and even more reflective insights like if we might be questioning our own individual styles over time, and why.

Personally, as a long term user, I still like checking the recent purchases thread to see what people are buying and would love to see more commentary in there, regarding why they thought the item was worth purchasing, what they thought of it, and so on. Random Fashion Thoughts can still have sparks of debate which I think people enjoy even if only for the drama, but as LA Guy said above, those kinds of arguments have a lot more potential for generating interesting discourse than on mediums like Instagram. Perhaps, that may be a nice direction for the forum to develop towards: long form, mature debates between experienced fashion consumers who we all mostly know in the community. I know I'd rather read that than listen to the one-sided marketing spiels of would-be influencers; especially those delivered on inefficient mediums designed to sap as much attention and time as possible.

I always liked scanning recent purchase threads but reading through them feels very different from posting to them. Posting your recent purchases can feel at least a little bit like fishing for validation in the same way posting a picture of yourself can feel.

I'm writing an article about dressing with intentionality, and using the idea of a writer making intentional choices about a character. I'd like to contrast the role of the writer from the role of, say, a costume designer.

Does anybody have good examples of literary passages that describe a character's attire, and what that attire says about the character?

What brand would you wear, if you had to wear only one brand's clothing, for the next 5 years.

This hypothetical excludes footwear and undergarments, and it leaves enough room with the timeline to experiment.

I've seen this question as a lifetime commitment and have it be head to toe, but then the answer is just always ralph.

At the moment, The Viridi-Anne or Rosen.

Or perhaps Comme des Garcons. This one is a bit of a cheat because their output is so so varied you could look like anything from as colour-coordinated as @denislcp to an almost Yohji-like darkness.

But in real life, I don't have the self-discipline to do this!

I think my brand of choice for 5 years would be Monitaly, and I do feel like choosing megco would be cheating. It'd be a great way to spend my mid-30s, just bumming around in a very Japanese version of LA rose bowl finds.

Their work is unique enough to require a lot of their stuff to work, and they have a variety of silhouettes with which I can experiment.

Particularly thinking about how I'd do carrot trousers and giant outerwear all the time.
