Random Friday frustrations.

why is it that I can’t find decent quality tops ie thermals in this case at sub $50. I am at the moment looking to iron heart for thermals/thermal Henleys both because of good fabric and cut but then I am >$100 territory for something that looks pretty average.

this stuff looks super cool but i can't really justify a hundred bucks for a pair of shorts.

I worked with a company that made some shorts. Pricing them was always tough as far as perceived value as a lot of the labour costs were spend in the construction of the top section of the pieces. Diging into the costing vs a pant, the additional expense of the leg section and cuff as far as labor and additional fabric was not that much, in what I saw, vs the perceived value of a full pant. But I get it that $100 is not cheap. If you're a runner you aren't buying a single pair of shorts - unless you really love doing laundry.

what’s wrong with Uniqlo heat tech? It’s pretty cheap and works well

@kjb i'm with you on this - i've dallied in nicer shorts over the years, but 80% of the time I'm wearing shorts it's because I'm outdoors and/or working out, and for me nothing beats a pair of mesh basketball shorts or baggies. As much as I love Kaptain Sunshine I bought a pair of their shorts this past season and just never wear them because anytime I'm wearing shorts I'm going to be moving around a lot, and they just seem too nice to like run or climb in lol.

Agree with this 100%. I’m not one of those guys who is anti-shorts and thinks they’re only for little kids - if the weather warrants it and I’m not at the office I’m likely wearing shorts and I’ve tried nicer ones but I inevitably end up being a lot more active and I’m always afraid I’m going to get them dirty from working outside or whatever. I haven’t tried Uniqlo but I do have a bunch of cheapo shorts from Bonobos and things I bought marked way down from J. Crew.

My “nice” shorts always end up sitting in a dresser drawer unworn all summer.

oh yeah i can totally see how they got to that price point. considering the fabric and the lining and the integrated belt. and i love tracksmith, they make really nice stuff. i just feel like some (or a lot ha) of it is superfluous. if you got the funds, go for it because it's generally really good. my tracksmith session shorts (the only running shorts i use) do just fine on the trails and are $40 less.

The TrackSmith stuff always looks fantastic but most of their items I've tried are absolutely horrible at wicking water/sweat away and can get weighed down pretty quickly if you are one to sweat a lot on your runs.

It's very kind of you to assume that I'd actually use their clothes for running and not just posing.

I have some of their stuff and like it, but am probably not as much of a "serious" runner as some people on this board. Only thing I dislike is an old track pant model where the pants have a strap that goes under your foot. Bought that from an archive sale and can see why they discontinued it. But otherwise like their stuff, although I agree you're paying partly for the name, branding, marketing, etc.

Have some things from Nike's Gyakusou. I like that line more, but the clothing designs have become slightly more boring over the years. (Shoes are cool though)
