Second wave was also my favorite. I have always been a big fan of Emperor.
Agreed. I grew up with it (turning 40 next year), alongside various noise, darkwave and goth. Ive literally been listening to black metal since I was 15, and it will probably always have a place.

No, you're wrong.
I think peak hipster era was during the early 2000s when Southern Lord started flooding record stores with ****** US black metal (Xastur, Wolves in the Throne Room, etc). When all of the early Darkthrone, Emperor, Burzum, Satyricon, Immortal, Dissection, etc stuff was coming out only true metalhead freaks cared.

I don’t know, I used to be a huge metalhead but the elitism is just bad as hipsters. It’s no different. Granted I am younger so I didn’t live through the heyday and mostly dealt with older white dudes gatekeeping their music. No different from hipsters being pissed when anything gets popular etc.

Frankly I was more into 80s/90s death metal

I was never able to get into black metal aside from a couple specific bands ( Watain and the first few Craft albums most notably), which is kind of perplexing because I sought out and enjoyed heavy/abrasive music of all kinds, especially when I was younger. I've never understood why the genre as a whole was mostly a miss for me!

However I still regularly listen to 80s/90s death metal - and a handful of the better contemporary bands that are aping that style. It's had a bit of a resurgence the last few years, which has brought on a flux of mostly mediocre releases and a few phenomenal ones.

Death metal discussion > knife discussion

Fair enough, but the difference is that the metal discussion is going to end up at a handful of posts, to the several pages of knife talk.

Edit: I just saw this whole page is basically metal talk, so you can go ahead and ignore my comment now. :x
