I'm studying in New Zealand and Allbirds are EVERYWHERE. Honestly, they are comfortable af and I've seen some people wearing them with some good fits. Also it's cool to see the majority of the population wearing shoes from a certified B corp.

Their stuff looks exactly like Everlane, but the sustainable materials angle is real and the fabrics are a little more technical. Prices are very good. You could do much worse for basics, much worse.

I've really got no problem with Allbirds at all. Sure, I'm not excited by their style. But they are making real efforts with materials technology, which very few manufacturers that make more 'interesting' products are doing. And their stuff does the job it's supposed to do. Even the initially sceptical reviews of their new running shoes have been forced to conclude that they are actually not bad and that they work just fine for people who run shorter distances regularly.

Im looking for a water resistant sneaker and if anyone here have recommendations on what worked for them? I’m into the classic tennis shoe silhouette so nothing super chunky.

I an not an expert, but I think if you're looking for true water-resistance, you are only going to find this in performance wear, namely trekking/hiking shoes of varying ankle height or trail running shoes. I don't think you're going to find a model resembling Stan Smiths that is also water resistant.

That being said, there are various weather protectants you can spray onto a pair of tennis shoes, and particularly at the seams. This will help to some extent, but isn't going to keep your feet dry during a downpour, namely because we're talking about low-profile shoes with open lacing. If you're looking for shoes for that use case, go higher profile, thicker sole or completely sealed, a la rainboots proper. Personally I have used Blundstones treated with protectant to good effect.
