Honestly so stupid. It's damned if you do, damned if you don't.

If you post something regular, like "check out our latest spring arrivals," you will seem tone-deaf.

If you post something about your company's values, people will accuse you of virtue signaling.

It has nothing to do with the people who are posting and everything to do with how people are deeply cynical. Saying phrases like "late stage capitalism" = "I'm so smart."

Anyway, I hope brands just do whatever they think is right, regardless of how they're judged. It's literally impossible to do anything without pissing people off nowadays cause everyone is a cynic.

What is my poor soda brand supposed to do??!!! Everyone's so cynical they can't believe it cares deeply about the suffering of black people, here have a sip.

the only righteous thing to do is to post marxist theory on the website about buying clothes. styleforum is the real space for praxis in 2020.

perhaps a little empathy for a business whose store got trashed? (because, remember, empathy isn't finite).

(fwiw, for some context, need supply has never been seen as a great local employer for anyone, but I don't think that's particularly different from most clothing stores, especially smaller/mid-sized brands (or even big stores -- its not like j. crew pays well or provides good benefits)). don't donate to them, they're not a charity and they're not destitute, but maybe the next time you're bargain shopping for engineered garments at 40% off, give them a look, because, again, empathizing with other human beings a good thing.

I don't get the joke, but I've never seen the show.

He's saying you probably listen to that podcast where everyone is named John (Pod save america) and thinks they make bold proposals for a wonderful future. Or that you get an erection when you hear means-tested.

The West Wing was a show that essentially stated that all that was needed was liberal ivy virtuous suits bloviating about the virtues of centrist policies so that everyone would rally the flag and make America fulfill its promises. They're like the anti Carl Schmitt so @Teger probably has a natural aversion to them.

the west wing represents a particular kind of liberal political thought that assumes good intention and equal legitimacy from all sides in a fun callback to a progressive worldview that died in the 1940s. but it also has a young michael j. fox wearing very 1990s suits.

In the show, the writers seem to think that all the liberal White House staffers and most of the republicans have nothing but the best intentions behind their decisions.
he seems to think that is where you are coming from, thought I don’t see how he gets that from your posts.

i just think exploring the fashion statement provided by flustered staffers with rolled up sleeves and VERY baggy shirts would make an excellent DWW blog.
