Anyone ever get photochromic lenses on glasses? The stuff that turns dark when you're outside, then back to clear when you're indoors? Are they annoying or actually good?

Alternatively, anyone ever get very lightly tinted eyewear? Like, the cheesy kind you see on a character in a bad 90s film?

Thinking about getting a pair to wear with admittedly cheesy outfits.
Have never worn, but I know a couple people who wear lightly tinted lenses and I think it looks great. Has a real 70s or jazz vibe depending on the frames.

I know my parents have these, and have said that there's a big difference between the name brand "Transitions" and the generic versions of it. They really like them, but also point out that they don't work for driving (the windshield blocks the UV that makes them change).

I don't wear photochromic but I had a light brown gradient on my gold Moscots that i've been very happy with for a few years now. It makes everything a bit softer when I'm wearing eyeglasses, but if i'm looking down or have my chin up the colors are still accurate. IIRC I did a "35% gradient" whatever that may mean. They had me try on proper sunglasses that were 25% and 50% and I asked if they could do something in the middle, and they said yes.

I'm assuming this is the same thing as transition lenses? I've had them for years. They do work pretty well, though they aren't as dark as I'd like in really bright light, nor do they darken well if you're driving because of the UV blockers on windshields.

Thanks for the feedback on the lenses!

Curious, have you found these darken over the years? I've read that, over time, transition lenses never really go back to being totally clear. They become slightly tinted even when you're indoors. Supposedly happens in about two years.

Really digging the stuff by made Joyce. Shoutout to @dieworkwear for the write-up about the brand.
Yea, I really like their shirts. Reasonably affordable too.

I noticed that earlier pairs seemed to have a tint, but my current ones (transition progressive prescription lenses from Costco) appear to get completely clear. They're maybe two years old but I don't remember exactly. They also get darker than earlier versions so the technology may be improving.

I've heard annoying, if only because they work regardless of the quality of light. So if it's a cloudy day, and you don't know necessarily need (or want) to be wearing sunglasses, you're kind of stuck.

I have them, and hate them, because they don't transition fast enough (clear to dark or vice versa) or dark enough. My favorite is walking inside from outside and everything is as if I'm in the Upside Down.

Once technology improves, or they invent "quick switch", I just wear my regular prescription sunglasses.

Does anyone have any recommendations on a good place in Beijing to pick up a well-made pair of eyeglasses at a nice price?
