Hi all — long time lurker, first time poster. I’m not sure if this is the right place for this, but how do we feel about contrast collar/cuff shirts in 2024? Do they stand out too much? Are they too old-fashioned (in a bad way?) Can they be pulled off?
I own a nice lavender french cuff shirt that has a white collar and white cuffs, but I can rarely find a good occasion to wear it. Here’s me trying to rock it at a formal social occasion:

(On an unrelated note, the visible bunching of the shirt near the jacket lapel leads me to believe that the shirt itself might need a trip to my alterations tailor, but this is probably a better topic for the tailors thread.)

I’d be more concerned about that colossal collar gap resembling an active volcano than about banker collar shirts.

Is there any JP proxies that still let you declare a lower value on the customs? I used to use Zenmarket and Remambo but neither of these allow it anymore

"Company Insider Succeeds Dries Van Noten
By Tim Blanks
Julian Klausner, Dries Van Noten’s former head of womenswear, will make his runway debut as the label’s creative director in March. ‘I like to think I encouraged Dries to embrace bolder expressions,’ Klausner told Tim Blanks."

Cheers for the recs, Kyle! I did get to see some F/CE in Portland last week and liked what I saw. I had forgotten about Mountain Research and will check out the others.

Ah, it’s been a while since I paid attention to nonnative.

I managed to attend a capsule party for Earth/Studies in Portland last week and enjoyed seeing their pieces in person. I think one of the designers was there but I didn’t meet him. Some of the 18East pieces they had were nuts. I did order a pair of the Kantha field pants from the NMWA sale and hope they are long enough :) Edit: oh dang they offer tall sizes in their pants!
Late to the party but I have a Nanga down jacket that I like—urban but not too out there for a 51-year-old

Going to be in NYC tomorrow through Friday and I have some time on my hands which means money will be slipping out of them.

Is there a shared NYC google map with menswear stores? Here's what's on the potential list:
  • RL Mansion
  • RL Broadway
  • The Armoury
  • CHCM
  • colbo
  • 18 East
  • Crowley Vintage
  • Noah
  • Nepenthes
  • Moulded Shoe (need to try the Alden modified last)
  • Buck Mason
If you can think of others, please let me know. I would love to add a few more vintage stores to the list.

If there isn't a shared map. I'll start one and make it public.

My absolute favourite visit each time I'm in NYC is to make an appointment and go and see NMWA.

If you want to try on the Alden Modified last, why not go to Alden directly?
Also would consider
Carmina
Leffot
Standard & Strange
Self Edge
Wythe

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
