I went through a cowboy boot phase in the 80's during a brief attempt to assimilate into the deep south. No, they are not comfortable, ever.

I beg to differ, I got 3 pairs and they are just as comfy as any dress shoe. Sure they are no sneaker. However none of my boots have a really huge cowboy heel which was probably more common in the 80s

Are they comfortable for walking around?

Wouldn't walk 10 miles in them but sure if the fit is good they're fine. Especially if you walk on smooth surfaces or dirt, heels+cobblestones is very entertaining too

Only thing I've ever had in navy that looked good was a tuxedo/dinner jacket with silk shawl collar lapels, and even that was more of a midnight blue than a navy.

True navy can be a bit tough, but something just darker than navy is extremely versatile Knits, jackets, suits, in a darker navy look good on nearly everyone.

With true navy I find it hard to know what to wear with it. It's weird because it's supposed to be one of the most versatile colours according to menswear.

Well, I think that it's used as general term of anything north of royal.
