Random question: Can I get a winter coat with a non-removeable fur hood trim dry-cleaned? I feel like taking it to a fur cleaner is overkill since the only fur aspect is the hood.
Curious what Rave would charge for that job. Have to assume it will be well north of $150-$200, before shipping.
I assume you spent a not so small amount of money on the coat and the fact you are asking to get it cleaned means you like it enough to keep it. I think if you truly love the coat, is there a price too high for getting it cleaned correctly while maintaining the integrity of the garment less someone mishandles it and skews your view consequently. Certainly, within reason and based on the type of coats and general outerwear Styleforum bros spend on, getting it cleaned should be a drop in the bucket, definitely compared to buying a new one I think.

On a somewhat related note, does anyone have any suggestions for some gentle soaps for hand washing things?

I have nubuck leather coat with a button in rabbit fur liner. I got it off some sales rack at Bloomingdale for a couple of bills many moons ago as I could never buy fur today.

That being said, it put some 1/4" tears in it hiking though the woods. It is not my favorite coat but it is warm and has plenty of life left in it.

Any recommendations for repairing nubuck without it looking like crap?

Send it to a leather specialist like Superior Leather in NYC.
I thought of that but with shipping and repair costs, it will br more than I paid. I might entertain it though.
