Hello all,

Need some sizing help. Do any of you own both Grant stone and rancourt boots?

I'm a size 10D in grant stone boots on the Leo last. Would I be the same in rancourt specifically the Byron boots?

For reference I'm a size 10.5 in all sneakers.
You can order and exchange for a different size without penalty. If you can get on a Brannock device, that would help. The sneaker reference is not all that helpful.
My Byron boots are super comfortable and they fit true to size. I am 11B on the Brannock and the Bryons in 11B are perfect. The 115 last is a bit more narrow than the hand-sewn lasts and I think a bit closer to the Brannock size.

Brannock is 10.5 . Forgot to mention. True to size then. Ah well

Received my new Eastports in dark brown from the crowdfund campaign. I forgot how snug these things are when they first arrive. The break in process begins next week. I hope they will be as sublime as my last pair after a few weeks. This is one of the reasons I am afraid to go with shell in this model because the 114 last, at least for me, needs a bit of stretching to get that so-called "glove" fit.

The only other Rancourt k have are the CXL beef rolls…are these bulldog leather approximately the same as far as tightness/break in?

I have never tried the beef rolls but I do not think that the Bulldog leather stretches quite as much or as easily as CXL or the Horween "Kudu" oiled leather. I have all three leathers. With the oiled leathers, especially in an unlined shoe, you can basically stretch the shoe however much you want -- within reason. So you have to be careful with them.

That notwithstanding, I can attest to the fact that the Bulldog leather will stretch with a little effort and time. My original pair of Eastports were VERY tight when I first got them. I needed a shoe horn to squeeze into them and it was tight under the strap and across the ball of my foot. So I gave it some time and tried to work the leather to help soften and stretch it. Within a few weeks they became more comfortable to wear. Now, a couple of years later, they are an awesome pair of shoes -- form fitting without any heel slip. I can wear them barefoot or with dress socks. Now I have a second pair. Rinse and repeat.

Couple of my favorite Rancourt MTOs. These caramel shell captoes, which I found for a great price second hand:

And these custom horse butt camp Mocs, which are well worth their significantly less great price:

These look awesome. Is there a lot of difference between the horse butt and shell in terms of wear characteristics? Is the horse butt similar to an oiled leather? I have the camp mocs in CXL and they are great but I really need the stretching characteristics of the CXL to make them a perfect fit.

Yes, I'd say more comparable to an oiled leather than cordovan. They're pretty malleable, not quite the same amount of stretch as CXL, but enough to where they conform to your feet pretty easily.

My first official Rancourts (I believe some RRL moccasins I own were made by Rancourt but...) and they won't be the last. Love how these feel sockless. Right out the box and no break in needed at all. Also my first bit loafers
