what to do when your laces are too long? maybe a newbie question but please bear with me lol

I recently got a pair of Ranger Mocs. I tie them the “regular way”, like any shoes or trainers. The leather laces are an inch or so too long and they touch the floor when I walk.

Should I just cut them? Half an inch on each end should do the trick. Any finishing necessary after?

Or is there a specific way to tie leather laces so they end up shorter?

Thanks!
Cut them. Leave enough room to repurpose the leather. I make zipper pulls with old leather laces.

I think I’ve had these navy shell cordovan Ranger Mocs for about 7 or 8 years now. They get worn a ton and have held up beautifully.

Love the laces as well (and shoes of course!). Not usually a big fan of navy shell but these make me reconsider.

Those are magnificent! Where are the laces from, if I may ask?

They are flat waxed laces from some Alden ranger mocs. I think they are infinitely nicer looking with this type of shoe than any of the laces Rancourt offers.

FWIW, the Alden stores are often willing to send/give you free laces if you've bought from them before.

is it possible to MTO a pair of shell Ranger or Baxter mocs?

I'm a 9D BTW, in case anyone has a pair laying around :)

If you email Rancourt I believe they will do MTO for an additional fee. Last time I inquired it was an additional $100 on top of whatever they're charging for shell these days.
great, thanks! will do

I emailed them and got a reply in like 15 minutes. They said it's possible. 10-12 weeks turnaround right now due to "supply chain issues" with the cordovan. Sounds ok to me.

I've custom ordered a few pair of shell ranger mocs from Rancourt (including the navy ones I posted yesterday). Wait times aside, I've always had good experiences doing MTO through them, shell or otherwise.

Is the MTO fee still an additional $100? Just curious.
They haven't said anything about pricing yet. I'll send them the full details and ask a quote. I'll post it here.

If I may ask, are your navy shell mocs lined or unlined? Also, what kind of sole and edge color did you chose?

Just trying to figure out my specifics, your pair looks great.
