I understand that, but they’ve worn down far more quickly than any other footwear I own.

Seems almost time to get these heels replaced already. They only have around a dozen wears on them. Anyone else find the stock heels not very durable?

My cobbler did reopen so I’ll be taking them in tomorrow along with the beefrolls. I know he recommended Vibram heels preciously.

there’s about 1.5mm left on these 5mm heels.

The heels on my cxl beefrolls wore down much more quickly and have already been resoled by Rancourt. My color 8 shell beefrolls have seen twice a much wear (at least) and the heels lasts much longer. However, I think this is more due to the face my cxl fit much more loosely and wear down more quickly despite being the same size as the shell version.

Any other similar loafers (leather sole and heel stack) to compare it to?

Interesting experience. The Eastports are getting Vibram toplifts as we speak. Will be picking them up tomorrow morning.

I am fairly new to nicer footwear so these two pairs of loafers are the only ones I have ever owned. My Eastports aren't really loose fitting. I'd say they're just right. My CXL pair is definitely more loose, and I can see myself needing tongue pads in them as they break in more. If they end up stretching to the point where they are loose even with tongue pads I plan on selling and getting some flint kudu beefrolls. Perhaps this looseness will contribute to me needing the toplifts redone on the CXL beefrolls in a few months.

Nice being able to wear these outside. Couldn’t do it before the sole guards because I’d destroy the toes too fast.

Thinking about the flint kudu beefrolls soon. When I first saw them I thought the color wasn’t very good, but it keeps growing on me. Might end up being my favorite stock beefroll option.

No matter what heels you get on those they are always going to wear down in that one spot due to the way you walk. That doesn't mean you need to get them replaced.

Yes. I have worn other footwear in my life and am aware that rubber is not indestructible. Just over 1mm left when I’ve worn them maybe 12 times is not what I would consider normal. Probably only 6-8 times for full work days.

But fear not. I had them replaced with a more durable rubber that’s also 1-2mm taller. Shouldn’t really be much downside to that since I have sole guards that add a few millimeters to the sole.

Anyone order the new Rancourt house slippers? I love the aesthetic and the fact that they are wool lined, but worry a bit about the durability of the outsole, even if they’re limited to use in the house.

How do you feel about spending money on non-essential goods during the Covid-19 crisis?

  • I don't want to spend money at a time of economic uncertainty, even if I could afford it.

  • I feel compelled to spend to help small businesses that are struggling.

  • I reduced my budget for non-essential goods and I'm not spending at the moment.

  • Not much has changed for me and I'm still buying stuff I can't afford.
