the swatch I got from Kyle is a thick leather, the front is the suede and the back is a normal smooth leather surface. This is different from the thin suede leather you can find on the Clarks DB

So then the shoe is built unlined? I take it this is different from the Casco lining that I see referenced.

Also, I was just looking at the Horween blog and I wonder how this Essex hide would makeup in a Rancourt shoe, and if they can get it...

Have you posted pictures of your shoes before?
I think I haven't seen olive Rancourts posted by a member up here, but I thought the ones Club Monaco offered looked lovely and was always keen on seeing some presented by a fellow SFer.

Navy suede does look very nice. What does "orion" mean? The name of the color (i.e. fancy name for navy)? Or material?

I've seen these. They are nice, very dark olive color.

^I live in Toronto. Maybe at their flaghship store, but none of the smaller ones. I had to order these. I returned them b/c they were too small.

You mean Rancourt or Club Monaco?
As I understand it, Rancourt does not hold a lot of stock at all, even of the styles that are shown on their site, but they will happily make those to your order if you want them just like you have seen them on the Club Monaco page.

I see, only asking because I haven't see any of those in the Boston/NY CMs. I just wanted to see the leather in person to make sure how much I like the color. I do believe that the color on CM website is pretty true to color. but I'd rather see it myself or have a SFer take a pic of their shoes, if they got time, for me.

I posted mine a while ago, club monaco's photo is a bit underexposed in my opinion.

I'm pretty sure that it refers to the suede material. The shoes I ordered last week were listed as "Snuff Orion Suede," the same as the navy. Checking some of the Quoddys I have in suede, they're listed as "grizzly" and "calico" respectively, and if I were to make an educated guess, I'd say it might possibly have something to do with the texture of the nap. Kyle would probably be able to answer this question with certainty, though.
