I'm glad to hear it's finally getting sorted out however.

Wow, I would have been pissed. Sounds like they we're being a bit difficult. This is why I've been using insured and signature confirmation for the shoes I've been selling lately. The less questions and doubts the better as far as I'm concerned.

Yep, it cost a little more, but I don't worry so much. It's worth it to me.

update: after sending in my shoes slightly less than a month ago, the replacement pair got fedex'd overnight to me here in canada. they also included 4 leather coasters and a shoe horn.

    overall, A+ customer service.

Still loving my tall loden CXL boots from @Portland Dry Goods. Interestingly, I have not needed insoles anymore as they've aged. Still not as snug as I'd like, but less foot shifting.

Hi guys, I am about to order a pair of Blake boots. I live in Canada. It usually gets under -10 (or sometimes -20) here and there is a lot of snow and ice. Should I order the montello mini lug or the tempest sole? And what is the difference between Color 8 and brown Chromexcel? If I could get some pictures, that would be great!

I've never had any boots in Chromexcel but I think the color looks so uniform, not as natural as vegetable tanned. Does it look more natural after some wear?

P/S: Are the Blake boots made with goodyear welt?

Thanks for the update Matt - was great to hear you describe the inspiration/design process on these and always great to see a well worn pair of boots!

Color 8 will be more red than Brown CXL. Think merlot vs chocolate.

Blake boots are made using the Blake construction (thus their name) and are not goodyear welted

    Thank you very much!

And what do you think about shell cordovan in cold weather? I think it's not bad to give it a try after all these years hearing about it.

I'm pretty picky with colours. Could anyone tell me the difference between the espresso shell and the brown CXL and how well they age? Apparently it is really dark, pretty much black-like.

    Thank you.

Wow thank you so much. I love the espresso.

Would you recommend lined or unlined? I always wear mine with medium-thick socks (Canadian problems). I heard that unlined is really unforgiving to socks, but I don't know how it is on shell.

Love the brass eyelets on those, really pops against the brown.

CXL does not stay uniform in color

Get the mini lug. I wish that I did.

Pics below - The blake boots are espresso shell, the boat shoes and women's mid-boots are brown cxl.

Consider the russell boot. More boot-like last with a higher toe box.

Depending on what you're looking for, you might consider other brands as well. I love Rancourt, but their boots are really just tall shoes.
