I wear Barrie/Trubalance 10.5e or 11d. My Rancourt shell beefrolls are 11e and I'd say they have a little too much volume (solved with a tongue pad). I have a pair of lined suede rancourt mocs on now that are 11d and a tad in the tight side (particularly with socks).

Considerin all that, If I were to order a new pair of shell beefrolls today, I'd go with 11d. It would work well for me sockless and with lighter socks.

    Hope that helps.

Guys sorry to bother yet again. My wife is concerned that I will find the shell beef roll penny to dressy for shorts. I have boat shoe that can go real casual but I want something in between. So do I need like a cxl for this or stay shell.

Shell is definetly more formal to me, plus pricier so maybe you won't wnat to beat them up quite as much. Juts my .02

No and I would never consider a beefroll a dress shoe so I think I'm fine with wearing them with shorts and a nice shirt

My opinion is that neither shell nor the beefroll loafer are too dressy for shorts. I'm assuming here that we aren't talking about athletic shorts or jean shorts or such. I'd wear them sockless with shorts in general and this is a classic casual Americana look, IMO.

Agree with this almost completely, though I'd qualify it by repeating that I don't think that shell is by any means too dressy for the RIGHT kind of shorts in this shoe.

Agree. But I think he said he was looking for something in between "dressy" and a boat shoe. Now we agree that a shell beefroll is not dressy, a CXL calf loafer would definietly fit the bill for being in between shell and boat shoe IMO.

So . . . I finally pulled the trigger on an MTO Ranger-Moc. Placed the order today with Katie at Rancourt. So far the process has been smooth and easy. We had a chat a few weeks ago about the various leather offers which resulted in her sending me a bunch of swatches. After being distracted for a few weeks, I finally decided on the Golf Green CXL. The full make up is green CXL, brass eyelets, tan contrast stitching, RLH sole, with a natural leather welt (or under sole, not sure what it really is as these are Moc stitched and not a true welt). Basically, this should look like their green shell Ranger-Moc except with a brighter green CXL. Cost is $315 + $12. After a prompt paypal transaction I received an email confirming that i should receive my order in about two weeks.

Thanks everyone for your input a few weeks ago.

Leather sole makes a difference too, I think. That dresses almost any Rancourt shoe up a little bit.

Viberg has been working with the ripple sole as well. It's interesting, but I'm not sure which style category it fits in.

THAT sole on THAT shoe is the dumbest thing that I have ever seen!

definitely more appropriate for a boot.
