Dear everyone, I was browsing through the Ralph Lauren boutique, and was quite impressed with the PL offerings this season. Personally the various subtle stylings were quite elegant such as the ticket pocket, pocket flaps, double vents, and etc. However the staff wasn't as well informed as I would hope. Having made a comment of the shirts being made by Lorenzini the salesperson said no these were Italian shirts
. But then the salesperson did pass the test of knowing it was Saint Andrews instead of Chester Barrie. All in all the choices were quite beautiful, and were fit for a modern dandy.

Purple Label is so Gatsby...
Maybe I am just a delusional Purple Label fan, but I consider "Polo" to be the Gatsby and Purple Label to be a bit more refined. Unless someone looks at your tag, and knows what purple label is they wouldn't know.

RLPL fall-winter collections usually contain exactly one piece that I like. Last year, it was the velvet morning coat. This year, the piece that caught my fancy was the brown suede blazer with the side-vents and ticket pocket. Hopefully I'll wear both of them more often this year than I wore the morning-coat last year....

Peace,

Actually, I just purchased a brown suede blazer. So far, I have it paired with nice denim and only 1 pair of lighter brown slacks. Any other ideas on how/when to wear a suede blazer?

I would try my tan corduroys, they always come in handy with earth-tone jackets from coarser materials.

As it happens, with the heat abating I have worn the RLPL suede jacket once socially, pairing it with olive-drab cotton moleskin trousers by Miu Miu (I told myself when I bought them at a very steep discount at an outlet that I'd wear them for hiking, but they've become my favourite non-denim runabouts. At least until they fall apart.) and brown rubber-soled wingtips by Tod's. I wore a white polo-collar oxford under it, by Sisley. I did put a white linen pocket-square in the breast-pocket, mostly out of habit.

I can't see such a jacket being dressed up too much. I'm thinking jeans, moleskins, cords, or pleated trousers in grey flannel or camelhair, capped with double-buckle monkstraps, rubber-soled wingtips, brown bowling shoes, or brown pebblegrain Ludwig Reiter Gustav Mahlers (assuming my recent entreaties to the factory to produce at least one pair thusly are met with a positive retort -- all Mahlers currently sold are black).

Peace,

JG

It seems to me that one doesn't need to wear something more or less casual with that morning coat. Of course it might appear a bit eccentric if one were to don cravats, and such with a morning coat but if one actually were even to own one people would find it eccentric. So why not go all the way?
