Via our friends over at Dandyism is a link to Ralph Lauren's Fall 2005 collection: Purple and Black labels, and the Polo line. Some interesting stuff though I have to agree with Dandyism and remark that the Black label isn't all that different from the Purple label in terms of styling...outside of being slightly slimmer in fit.

I checked out your link. Thanks for the post.

The front page has an article about Rudolph Valentino. I remember as a kid, my great-grandmother still had a crush on that guy at the age of 92. Heh heh. She once told me (when I was dressed up for mass) that I looked like him and gave me a little kiss on the forehead. The guy really must have made an impact in his time. She never mentioned Cary Grant, but she had a framed photo of R Valentino on her dressing table.

BTW - I really liked some of that RL stuff. Very nice. You could get away with it in a business environment, but still quite fashion-forward and probably flattering to those of athletic build. I really liked that coat on the bottom row, 3rd to the right, with the guy in the purple sweater. Nice stuff.

Thanks for the link... There had always been thumbs and screenshows at www.runway.polo.com but that seems now only for women... Have any idea how to access the Spring 2005 rlpl show?

Purple Label looks beautiful. Black Label looks like nothign special, but still nice. Polo is pretty awful. What's with number 61? Those are the most atrocious pants I've ever seen.

The look's several years out of date, street-style-wise.

Does there need to be anything else? Nonetheless, how about: 4) no shirt 5) no tie Come on. This is supposed to be a suit we're looking at.

I like hoodies (light hoodies, not heavy like the one in the picture) w/ linen sports jacket and jeans, plus sleeker-chunkier sneakers (sorry, my Y-3's in suede come to mind) if done right it looks good, but it can easily backfire.

The big designers, especially conservative American ones tend to be. Smaller, designer driven brands like Unis and APC are usually much quicker on the uptake.

a hoodie is being substituted for the shirt and tie. so same rule, recited backwards - i.e., the item that is present, versus the item in its place that is missing. i suppose the tie thing could be separate. it is possible to wear a tie with the hoodie. but that's another level.

Tie with a hoodie.... I'm going to pretend you did not say that. Put the mouse DOWN and back away from the computer.... How do I say it? Manton? Help me.

What's your impression on some of those suits. Are they too fashion-forward for business wear? Would it be stupid of me to bring a photo to a Hong Kong tailor and ask him to recreate it?

Carol Christian Poell did a turtleneck to be worn with a tie a few years ago.
